Nicolas Gaitan has emerged as a target for Chelsea Football Club.

The Argentine playmaker has enjoyed a fine season in Portugal with Benfica, which has already seen him linked with a move to Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been impressed with the 23-year-old’s performances against his side in the UEFA Champions League, and he would love to take him to Old Trafford.

However, it is believed Chelsea have also made Gaitan a target for the end of the season, when the player could command a fee as high as £40million.

Chelsea Football Club remain interested in signing Stevan Jovetic.

Andre Villas-Boas hoped to land the Montenegro upon taking charge at Stamford Bridge, but the player has since signed a new contract at Fiorentina.

The 22-year-old forward is now under contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi until the summer of 2016, but the Viola could yet face a test to hold onto their star asset.

According to reports in Italy, Villas-Boas remains keen on Jovetic, and will leave it until the end of the season before making a move to add the £20million-rated player to his Blues squad.

Aston Villa Football Club face missing out on Mehmet Topal.

Alex McLeish would love to add the Turkey international to his squad in the New Year, and is reportedly lining up an offer of around £8million.

However, it is believed both Chelsea and Manchester City are also keen on the midfielder, which is likely to see Villa muscled out of contention.

Topal, 25, is in the second year of his contract at Valencia, but the Spanish side would be powerless should his release clause of just £8.5million be met in January.
