I still think Kovacic-Kante-Havertz would be a very good midfield three.

I think Kante probably should have been sold in the summer. It's obvious he's on the wane. Shame we didn't convince Real to part with fortunes for him.
Our midfield needs surgery, but we were so busy this window it was somewhat overlooked. I just hope Billy comes back asap and works his way into the starting 11.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Huge ask of the lad superb...and obviously a completely different player to kante
Whilst I would probably concur that kante is not quite what he was... I really do not want one of our premiership rivals having him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure it's such a huge ask. He's a football player and a damn good one at that, we're just asking him to play football. And I'm not saying he replaces Kante necessarily, probably more likely Jorgi but we'll see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was more thinking about the players we bought since the last time he played plus he's been injured... No doubt he has the components to be a great player but we need to see it in real time within a very good team

At one point, Lampard had:
Kante, Kovacic, Havertz, Mount, Jorginho, Gilmour, Barkley, Loftus-Cheek, Ampadu, Gallagher, van Ginkel, Bakayoko, Drinkwater.
That's more than enough players to construct a reliable midfield.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At least 4 of these were or are never going to play in our team

Yes you're not wrong - we should be able to make a very good midfield out of those even without the class playmaker

Every manager that tries to take us away from 4 3 3 fails in the end
Accept it
Its like our version of the Barca style
We are Chelsea, we play 4 3 3
Im going off Conte and Jose both going downhill there
I know we won titles with different formations - fecking obvs

My second point was does kante get in the side because of what he does off the ball so much better than any other player - or do other players make this contribution as well as he does
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, and I thought that might be what you were asking and answered it above.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You did actually I missed that post...so further this have we got interceptions stats to back it up
Unsure if there are any other sort of stats that would back this being effective off the Ball skill up
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Feckin n seriously, you need stats on Kante about this? Ffs have you been living in a cave last 4 years?
Still waiting for biggish to come back with stats on how good kante is off the Ball and why having him in a defensive midfield position would make us struggle to break out from a high press

We didn't buy any central midfielders though. If anything we've let players go from midfield so I'm assuming the club have a lot of faith in Gilmour.

For me, unless Kante can improve his passing, then Frank will have to either play him as a DM in 4 2 3 1,with the possible impact that we won't be able to play out from the back agst a high press or we revert to 4 3 3 which will better suit Kova and Jorghino, but means Kante is dropped
----------------------------------------------------------------------
why would kante playing as a DM mean we won't be able to play out from the back off a high press
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I said possibly and it's because of his passing and technical ability in that position is not good enough in comparison to Jorghino.
