I think Kante probably should have been sold in the summer. It's obvious he's on the wane. Shame we didn't convince Real to part with fortunes for him.

Our midfield needs surgery, but we were so busy this window it was somewhat overlooked. I just hope Billy comes back asap and works his way into the starting 11.

I'm not sure it's such a huge ask. He's a football player and a damn good one at that, we're just asking him to play football. And I'm not saying he replaces Kante necessarily, probably more likely Jorgi but we'll see.

I was more thinking about the players we bought since the last time he played plus he's been injured... No doubt he has the components to be a great player but we need to see it in real time within a very good team

Kante, Kovacic, Havertz, Mount, Jorginho, Gilmour, Barkley, Loftus-Cheek, Ampadu, Gallagher, van Ginkel, Bakayoko, Drinkwater.

That's more than enough players to construct a reliable midfield.

Unsure if there are any other sort of stats that would back this being effective off the Ball skill up

Still waiting for biggish to come back with stats on how good kante is off the Ball and why having him in a defensive midfield position would make us struggle to break out from a high press

We didn't buy any central midfielders though. If anything we've let players go from midfield so I'm assuming the club have a lot of faith in Gilmour.

For me, unless Kante can improve his passing, then Frank will have to either play him as a DM in 4 2 3 1,with the possible impact that we won't be able to play out from the back agst a high press or we revert to 4 3 3 which will better suit Kova and Jorghino, but means Kante is dropped

Its not about quantity though is it? So many names on there do not apply for obvious reasons. But getting rid of Barkley has hamstrung him for sure.

I don't disagree at all I just don't like sweeping statements with nothing to back it up... You may well be right on all counts
