Should’ve let Kovacic run his contract down.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah I'm glad he's gone, was utter crap last season despite being one of our most "experienced" players.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So was the rest of the team. There’s a reason City wanted him and got him. Under a good manager he’s some player. Will be hugely missed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure, time will tell. He'll do fine at City because they're not going to ask anything more of him than hold onto and pass the ball in the middle third. He can do that in his sleep but he's clueless in the final third which won't matter there as they have so many excellent attacking players.

#Chelsea now face a decision whether to continue trying to drive down the price for Moises Caicedo, meet Brighton’s demands or include Levi Colwill to tempt the Seagulls into a sale.
Brighton have been clear in negotiations with Chelsea that selling them Levi Colwill would make them more agreeable to a deal for Moisés Caicedo.

Guarantee Brighton would've sold Caceido for 80m if it wasn't us bidding.
In terms of alternatives, I've heard Amrabat's name bandied about a bit. Though what do you think of Youssouf Fofana from Monaco? More of a Fabinho or a Bakayoko ?

He looks decent to be fair. I've seen more of Manu Kone so my preference would be for him as a cheaper alternative, but that's just my opinion.
Aleix García is another one who looks decent. I suspect we will still make a move for Veiga.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Caicedo is going to be DM if we sign him, Kova was never a DM for us. He's a CM who's very good on the ball in terms of passing and keeping possession but who also offers next to nothing going forward and couldn't hit a barn door most of the time.
I think your modern day CM should be able to do a bit of everything including making telling contributions in the final third at least some of the time.
Couple of links to Cheick Doucouré from Palace. Liverpool linked as well and will look to go for him if they can't get Lavia.
Mugs on here will laugh because he’s not a flashy named foreigner but I’d love McTominay, think he’s world class personally

Offered us nothing going forward simply isn't true. He frequently acted as the transition point with driving runs through midfield. You've got his ideal position right (the Xavi-esque role) but the description sounds like you're confusing him with Jorginho.
I'd also argue your definition of a modern day CM was more relevant in times past when the 442 was the dominate formation. These days more niche midfielders are acceptable, cos teams tend to pack the midfield, and it's the striker that needs a bit of everything - the days of the poacher are dead.
Didn’t Caicedo sign a contract extension in January lol.
He can’t really complain if they don’t sell him. Should have asked for a release clause before renewing.
Watching highlights of our pre-season games, some really nice football on show from us.
Jackson looks very promising. I'm a little wary just because the clips I've watched are showing him to be an excellent off the shoulder striker & they NEVER seem to work for us, but I need to see some full matches of him. If he's good in link up too we might've got a bit of a gem there.

As a box to box central midfielder he scored a measly 6 goals for us in 221 games. That's basically a goal per season in all comps, fairly pitiful really. Not sure what his assists stats are but I doubt they're any better.

His link up play is one one of his best assets. The interplay between him and Mudryk for the latter's goal against Brighton was top class.
In all honesty, I was pretty doubtful of him being able to lead the line when we signed him but his performances have made me change my tune. He just looks so confident and composed on the pitch. Might be another case of the lower transfer fee taking the pressure off
