I think this high line is crazy, it's like what Ange was doing with Spurs last season. Ours looks worse because our defenders are so slow

I think once we get our midfielders back we’ll be fine. Currently without Caicedo, Gallagher, Enzo, Palmer and the new guy KDH.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Problem isn't too much the midfield tho - we lost our best CB and sold 1 who was doing ok. Our defence was the worst part today and most specifically our CBs, and the scary thing was.......those currently are our first choice CBs without much competition, correct me if I am wrong but we currently have just 4 CBs in the first team? And the only one we are missing is disaster, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In fairness it was the right time to lose Silva.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree, but we haven't got a replacement in with experience
----------------------------------------------------------------------
These owners don't do experience
If this season does go badly wrong it will be the owners that will be the target from fans. They won't have Poch with his qformer Spurs history to take the punches for them this time round.

It’s possible to have good pre season and bad actual season. That happens a lot.
My point was I don’t think I’ve seen us do the opposite.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think if we get beaten badly in all our remaining pre season games there is an increased risk, but no certainty of starting badly in the PL due to a lack of belief and confidence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s why I don’t like the fact that we chose to play against top sides before the season starts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
These are all points I made the other day, although some people didn't seem to want to hear it. Preseason is largely irrelevant in terms of results, however if you get tanked in a series of games, especially under a brand new manager then that certainly isn't going to help the start of the season and team confidence etc.
We have games against Real, City and Inter coming up. Games where this team ideally needs to focus on developing this new style of play but instead they and the new manager will be under pressure to get a result or at least not get tanked. This isn't what preseason should be about. But thanks to whoever organised our preseason fixtures it now is.
Maybe preseason fixtures were already organised before Maresca was appointed, I don't know. But nevertheless preseason fixtures shouldn't be as difficult as this. Especially for a new manager who needs time to get the team playing his way.

Yes we had a really good preseason and then the wheels came off with injuries. Nkunku was the main man in preseason and he got injured right at the start of the season which upset our entire attack. Not to mention Poch's weird decision to drop Maatsen and completely sideline him despite the fact that he'd been one of our best players in preseason.
The amount of injuries we got in the first half of the season was unprecedented and you'd have to take that into account as one of the major reasons for why we struggled as much as we did in those first months of the season. Any team would.
Again I'm not saying that a good preseason guarantees a good start to the season but your example of last season's good preseason followed by a very poor start to the PL season isn't taking into account the ridiculous injury crisis we had where our players dropped like flies.
Sanchez is absolutely woeful still then
Such a joke, Petrovic was actually decent, now because we’ve got some Spanish bald clown as manager who has no clue, Sanchez is now back Lol
This manager is going to be awful can just tell
Badaishaille, Colwill and Fofana playing a high line in a back 3 is genuinely the funniest idea I’ve ever heard, to actually see it played out is even funnier
History is rife with examples of teams having good and poor preseasons followed by the inverse season. You don't need to focus on one example.

Good signings for Strasbourg
I think we’ll spend £300m again. I expect us to bring in a striker and winger at least.
Presumably we will recoup some of it from Maatsen, Gallagher, Broja? And Hall's sale which goes on this year's books

It’s a bit misleading to reduce the past 20+ years of this specific club to ‘one example’.
We have had good pre seasons followed by bad real seasons but never the opposite. Right now we’re on course for bad pre season, which historically has been followed by a bad real season. Can’t think of one example that says otherwise.
Does this mean we’re doomed? No of course not. Maybe the season will go well. The results of these matches themselves mean nothing and I cba to watch for that reason. But I don’t think it’s crazy to be a little bit concerned that the signs are not encouraging.
Honestly I’m more mad about the fact that his manager has kept Sanchez at the expense of Petrovic, than I am about the matches.

Doesn't really surprise me.
Petrovic is rubbish with the ball at his feet, knew he wouldn't last once we got Maresca in.
I'm just wondering how long Maresca will continue with Sanchez now we got Jorgensen
But Sanchez is also rubbish on the ball, in a different way. He helps the opponents more than he helps us.

Don’t think I’ll ever forgive Sanchez for that pass to Rice to be honest. One of our best performances last season and he cost us the chance to defeat Arteta again.
