I'm certainly not defending the amount we've spent under this ownership. I don't like it and I don't think we've spent well. But at the same time the spending fee is rarely if ever given much of a context which is the huge figure we've made from player sales in that time as well as a new ownership coming in with an intention to revamp the squad.
Then there's the fact that all summer I've heard things like how is it possible that we're able to comply with financial fair play after spending so much this window when we're actually only the 7th highest net spenders of the window having net spent next to nothing lol.
The thing to not be embarrassed about when it comes to our spend is the wages! I could argue for the outlay we've made we should be seeing players like Bellingham, Haaland, Rice, Kim Min-Jae, etc... over here. But those players would come with premium wage packages that would be devastating even if only a few of them didn't work out.
Too spend what we have, but equally have the modest (base) wage bill we do is kind of impressive
