I don’t know who will end up as the winner, between Clearlake and Boehly, but I have to say I don’t have much confidence in the decision making of either party.

Yes, we seem to be pushing out high salary players and getting those finances in order which isn’t a bad thing.

I’m not yet convinced that 8 year contracts for young, unproven players is a great plan - but fine, the jury is still out on that. I suppose we can still get some value from selling them in the future if it doesn’t work out.

My problem with them though is the random, disjointed nature of our purchases. This isn’t a balanced squad - it’s a random group of players with potential. We have about 10 young, average/poor goalkeepers. We have a handful of young defenders with potential - and a handful of dreadful/injured defenders. We have a couple of good central midfield players, plus a couple with potential, and one who is always injured. We have one (!) striker with potential, plus 8 attacking midfield players/wingers.

There just doesn’t seem to have been a well thought out plan. I’d really like to know who is actually making these decisions.

Blue it's been a complete sh!tshow to be honest.
Hopefully chucking enough sh!t, some will stick. That looks like the tactics but I am worried we've had to sell so many players at a loss, academy players and even our real estate to facilitate the madness.

It could all work and the clearlake defenders will say "there you go/told you so" but there will be no real victory from it, as you throw that much money at anything you should be competing and winning trophies.

We just have to wait to see how it all pans out.

Thinking of all our purchases its still crazy to think that from a starting 11 the only real success and players to stake a claim as a great player or having any consistency is the following:

St
LW CAM Palmer
CM caicedo?
LB CB CB Gusto?
GK

3 real successes or players who have nailed down a spot in the team

Boehly is just a minority shareholder. He's going to get squeezed out by Clearlake Capital within a year or so I think. Maybe even less. It's fairly clear from decisions like appointing Maresca and the U25 transfer policy that he doesn't have much say anymore.

You’re probably right, even though it seems he generally has more support among Chelsea fans than Clearlake does. It’s also possible that the majority of terrible decisions (spending HUGE amounts on players, and giving stupid salaries to players like Sterling) were Boehly’s ideas. And perhaps Clearlake’s U25 policy, and incentivized salaries, and appointing Maresca will all turn out to be brilliant ideas. But it’s hard to love a private equity firm, or believe they have any interest in Chelsea beyond making money.

Chukwuemeka doesn’t even get into the 2nd team.

Guiu, Casadei and Chukwuemeka should’ve all looked for loan moves.

I thought Casadei was more of a deep lying playmaker, I haven't seen enough of him to be certain.

posted 22 hours, 8 minutes ago

I also thought Casadei was a deeper midfield player.

My biggest irk with this club is situations like him, Chuks and Guiu where they’re just waiting around, couldn’t get them a loan, no space for them to get reasonable minutes in squad. Just feels like a waste on every level. At least Guiu is young/inexperienced enough makes some sense for him to be U21s.

Yeah by sheer definition Clearlake Capital's primary aim is always going to be using the club as a money making enterprise. There's really no getting away from that sadly.

I think most fans are probably siding with Boehly though as we at least know that his primary aim is making us the best we can be on the pitch. Even if he did balls up the start of his "tenure" as the face of Clearlake in the beginning.

True tbf. Think in that case it was more "for Mourinho" then "thank f*ck he's gone". Either way, initial run little to do with De Rossi, as I believe someone might've mentioned

Nah I mentioned him as an up and coming manager we could keep an eye on and you Jose worshippers took great offense to that because he had the audacity to take over a team that Lord Jose was managing lol.

Simone Inzaghi is the one I've been waxing lyrical about for ages and been most keen on us bringing to Chelsea.

I don't think he's interested in leaving Italy anyway. The fact his name isn't brought into speculation for the big European jobs (when it should be) seems telling.
