The media in particular. This is a generalised post however.

Take any great player out of a good team and they struggle. Would Ronaldo be as effective playing for Stoke? Would Rooney still be the player he was if he was playing for Wigan?

Good players+good team-mates+good manager = great player

I get really fed of all commentators saying "He is mortal" whenever he messes something up.

That said, he's the best player of all time in my opinion, and he's not even 25

He drops deep to get the ball when xavi isn't about. Simples.

He isn't over-rated, but he is over-hyped by the media. People who actually watch him instead of reading the paper or seing highlights will know he does mess up lke everybody else.

Best footballer in the world though no doubt.

Messi is a special player but all those that say that teammates make an excellent player world class are completely right. Messi is the best player in the world but he plays in a team and a league where his ability is nurtured and the focal point.

Having said that, Barça have not been good this season and it was Messi who pulled them through 8 or 9 games and scored goals and got the point to keep us in touch with Madrid.

He is a fantastic player, the best in the world right now, but he does have his faults which some people seem to forget. He is not the perfect player as many would have you believe.

You just have to look at Kaka, Ronaldinho, Torres and Shevchenko to see the truth about all world class players. The team and system are key!

you cant be serious

How people still continue to question his talent is beyond me!

Look at his stats, look at his trophy collection.

You say he's the best, then say he's overrated, how can you overrate someone who is at the top and has been at the top consistently?

Look at his goal to shots ratio, you won't find many better. I love Ronaldo, but even he doesn't come close in that department

Very true, Ronaldo wasn't a world beater until SAF built a team around him.

Messi has been poor for 3 or 4 weeks now from what I've seen, and Barca paying because they only have him and Sanchez fit who are a direct threat (with VIlla out).

He can't take free kicks. That's all.

messu needs to move to a better team.
Barcelona are in decline

Someone else used a better term. I think that it was overhyped. That is what I was referring to. He is an amazing player as aforementioned but he is treated like a god, when he is infact human.

"3 or 4 weeks"

wouldn't go that far Busby, he's had two below par games, one where Chelsea had 10 men behind the ball and he was constantly marked by 2 or 3 players and also against Madrid, the game before Chelsea he scored two @ Levante and a goal against Getafe the game before that.

Surely the fact that a team full of such amazing players still play with Messi as a focal point only proves how good he is?

If someones that good you don't play them at left back.
