I have copied this from posting on another article but when I checked it I saw that this clearly deserved an article all to itself.

The thing is Carrick was in poor form during that period and shouldn't have been taken. And now he's in good form and isn't.

When will we ever get things right?

Another tournament with Gerrard and Lampard in the middle, can't wait.

We weren't that much worse than Germany that game. United lost 6-1 to City. Are we that much worse than City?

We have a better defence and keeper now. David James? Matthew Upson? They were awful back then.

We started the Germany game terribly but got one goal back and should have had another. They scored the 3rd and 4th while we were chasing the game.
I'm not saying we were an amazing team in 2010 but with a better linesman we may have been looking back on that team with a bit more affection.

Funrob. What game were you watching? A disallowed goal nearly got us level just before half time in a blatant smash and grab five minutes. For the other eighty minutes they took us to the cleaners. As hard as that is to admit, it's fact mate.

And James and Upson weren't the weak links by a long way.

I honestly don't see what's wrong with that side. If you're looking for an aerial threat bring Milner and Carroll on.

That German side completely dominated that game and were/are infinitly better than us. They bossed us in midfield and have since unearthed 2 gems in Goetze and Bender. Our midfield selections are embarrassing, add to that there is a very real possibility Parker will miss the Euros through injury meaning Henderson could play.

Gerrard and Lampard will start, have we learnt nothing over the past decade, they don't work together, never have and never will. Add to that Gerrard has been poor for pretty much the past 2 seasons as well as being injured for most of this season why on earth has he been given the captaincy???

Our central midfield will more than likely be pretty much the same as the one that got humiliated against Germany.

A midfield 2 of Parker or Gerrard. Any team that plays decent possession football will destroy us.

Maybe Roy didnt notice that both are pass it and never played well together

Didi Hamann? He did doe twice didn't he doe? ** Rafa is not the way forward (U5172)

Gerrard in a midfield 2, have you lost your mind, that position requires the ability to be disciplined. It is not a position you give to a player who's ego is so big that he feels he has absolutely no obligation to be a team player and not do whatever the f uck he feels like.

Didi, since when has Milner been an aerial threat? Since when has he been any threat for that matter. There's a reason he only ever gets the last two minutes of a game for City.

As for the team you picked. Nowhere in that team or the squad Roy has picked is their the ability to retain the ball and keep possession. We will therefore have another tournament of no possession and be made to look amateurs by every other team who can actually retain a ball. This time there's no excuse for that. Carrick and Scholes were both willing to go and one of them slotted in with Parker, Gerard, Barry or Lampard would have made a huge difference.

Parker got man of the match vs Spain (best international possesion side in the world) not sure Gerrard should be in a midfield 2- should be played further up closer to the striker/s. We'll need to have someone who compliments Parker and vice versa if we are to have a solid central midfield (presuming he plays)

John Terry got outpaced by Klose in that game!

Sad we won't know because with your squad you hardly survive the group stage and won't have the opportunity to play against Germany again. Expect us in the final.

8bit. We aren't good. Point that's being made in the article is that for some insane reason we are persisting with players that have failed again and again, in a tournament we won't win and these players won't be there in two years time. How about instead of wheeling out the same overrated players we totally scrapped the lot and brought through a bunch of young players. They might not be much good now but hopefully within two years they might have improved and we'll have a slowly improving England team. Whereas after we get knocked out this tournament we'll all moan how we aren't very good and then we'll complain at the start of the World Cup how we have such a inexperienced squad. England have had no plan on an international stage for years and we're being totally shown up.

Richards > Johnson
Carrick = Best defensive mid
I don't know how Jones got in over Richards to be fair.
Also Downing?
No words for that.

Carrick and Parker/Barry wouldve provided the back 4 great protection whilst also remaining well disciplined.

Lamaprd and Gerrard both crave the limelight too much to stay back all game. They are both desperate to get forward and score. Play them both in the same midfield and you have one hell of a mess.

So frustrating.

Carrick HAS to be in the team. He is the only fit english midfielder that would be considered for the spanish SQUAD. Why does every manager seem to ignore him?
