I certainly know players who have been dropped for not meeting weight and height restrictions at youth level.
======================================
I can understand the weight restriction (well, kind of) but why would you have a hieght restriction?
Have people forgot about Maradona
I think most coaches at grass routes level coaches are beginning to get the message it's more about the football than the winning at a young age.
The new rules on number of players and pitch types should help anyway. Kids just need to know it isn't all about the scoreline, which was certainly the case when I was growing up.
Again, why does rubbish like this get multi boarded?
----------------------------------------------------------------
why is it rubbish? for once, dubbed is speaking a lot of truth - the only bit missing really is that agreements have been made on taking kids football forward, focusing more on skill than pace and power etc, but the gist of it is spot on. we are far too obsessed with hoofball, even in kids football, in this country.
I genuinely want to know why is this article rubbish? If I did, I would probably not multi-board it.
'I can understand the weight restriction (well, kind of) but why would you have a hieght restriction?

Yes because he is English
You would think at the least the win at all cost method from kids would create a winning mentality in this country.

Totally agree mate! Its a good article!!
Actually I'll bite!
If Messi was English he would not be an accountant, there are and always have been little players in English football. Arron Lennon being exactly the same as him (build wise)
"I can understand the weight restriction (well, kind of) but why would you have a hieght restriction?

He didn't come from England tho.
They'd break the news to him by saying he should look for another career.
"Way too small, sorry."
---------------------------------
That would be the case with 99.999% of players. You're making it seem as if he was given a chance because it was a Spanish club. However, if an ENglish club had spotted someone with such immense talent they'd probably have done the same.
Why are these boring articles multi boarded? And why are gooners soooooo boring? We should have a 'general' board for non club specific content.

Who said he was?
My point was he is "only" 5'5'' and considered to be one of the best player ever!

like the 'football' board? or the 'premier league' board perhaps?

What's your problem? If you don't agree with what I poster, you're free to offer another view. If not, you can go elsewhere.
For you to bring up Lennon shows how you haven't read the article.
That, or you think Lennon's technical. Wouldn't be surprised.
Are people really moaning about this article? Or having a go at the article because they don't like the author of it?
Its a damn good article. Better than most of the rubbish we see on some boards.
If you don't like it, don't comment on it.
I've heard this story many times before... I agree with you on some points.
I think that it comes from culture and short term views, it takes time for a smaller player to bed in, they find it more dificult to find their position. Modric was a good example, it took him time to find his place at spurs whereas a player like Yaya Toure can jump straight in because he has everything. Can you imagine a team at grassroots level having the patience to do this?
It also comes from opinions here, everyone in the UK has their opinion on how the game should be played and will not adapt to how their team should play in order to be sucessful.
I don't agree with the Zidane story, if you follow his career you'll see Juve made the same mistakes and Madrid took a while to get him incorporated into their team... sometimes if you are truely talented it will just come through.
im an accountant
are you saying that if i was argentinian i would be a professional footballer?
Once again a dubbed article gets dismissed just because it's him. This article points out a lot that is wrong with the English football system.
The main problem I think is that players at youth level are put in to 11 a side football far too quickly, they're not given enough time to develop technical skills. Instead they're forced into 11 a side football where physical attributes are far more important than technical skill at that age. This sees a lot of the more technical players getting the confidence they need and being dismissed by coaches.
If we kept 5 a side football for longer at youth level English footballers would become far more comfortable on the ball and be much more technical.
Good article Dubbed
Sadly at youth level coaches do tend to side with the bigger built kids, this is mainly to do with them not being proper coaches though

No they wouldn't.
They could have Maradona playing for their team, but if he walked with a funny limp, or was too short, they'd turn him down.
Talent only does so much in this country.
English football mentality is totally corrupt.
------------------
What is corrupt about our style? It is within the rules of the game, it is not illegal to play the style most english players do. The way Chelsea won the CL, is that corrupt? No, or the CL would be taken off Chelsea.
to be fair I don't think Messi would make a good accountant he can barely count to three
