If Messi Was English, He'd Be An Accountant

"I don't agree with the Zidane story, if you follow his career you'll see Juve made the same mistakes and Madrid took a while to get him incorporated into their team... sometimes if you are truely talented it will just come through."

Zidane was just an example. I didn't mean it literally.

the game is all about connections. there is a current blackburn rovers full time professional player who is only on their books because his dad is a famous football agent.... blackburn fans know who i mean.... i think he has only ever made one bench appearance for a carling cup game

I also agree with an earlier point that too many coaches are fussed about making their team win rather than developing the players and play good football.

What's your problem? If you don't agree with what I poster, you're free to offer another view. If not, you can go elsewhere.

For you to bring up Lennon shows how you haven't read the article.
That, or you think Lennon's technical. Wouldn't be surprised.
------------------------------------
That's why I said he's the same build as Messi, technical differences are worlds apart. Yet Lennon made it to the premier league, Messi would have made it in any league the world over.

Are people really moaning about this article? Or having a go at the article because they don't like the author of it?

Its a damn good article. Better than most of the rubbish we see on some boards.

If you don't like it, don't comment on it.

---------------------------

I don't like it because I don't agree with what a lot of it says. ''English football mentality is corrupt''. 'MOST English coaches have no clue what they are talking about', I'm perfectly within reason to debate it thank you!

I think it's a bit of a generalisation to say "all they care about is winning" etc. The boys club I was at from the age of 7 till 16 discouraged people from hoofing the ball up the pitch and simply picking players on the basis they were bigger and stronger. The club has always prided itself on making the players play like this and have as a result produced the majority of the best football players from the north east. Beardsley, Shearer, Lee Clark. All technically good players. More clubs should be like this.

I think there was an unhealthy obsession with players that are physically fit, faster and stronger than their counterparts.

I do believe there is a general change in attitude and more emphasis on technique now - Wellbeck, Sturridge, Wilshere, Shelvey.

However, parents and coaches are more concerned with winning and it makes the games less enjoyable for the youngsters. It puts them under too much pressure, so that's why they play with fear, and scared to try anything.

Using LFC as an example - players like Luis Suarez and Luis Garcia are two players who will try and the same trick 20 times a games, even if it doesn't come off in any of the attempts. Difference is, they have the self belief to try it again after they fail.

Downing and Henderson look scared to try anything out of the ordinary because they dont want to mak a mistake.

In other countries, playing attacking, skillful football is the main objective. Win or lose, they don't care for e.g. Spain and Brazil - they like to entertain.

Talent only does so much in this country.
---------------------------

I agree. I am no Messi, but when I was 8 or 9 I could run rings round all the kids in my class at school. However as my childhood years progressed kids around me got bigger and faster (they were still average players). However I became convinced I was no longer good at football and lost a fair bit of confidence.

I doubt I'd have been good enough to play professionally but I had far more technique than most kids I played with. Just disappointed I didn't pursue it but also didn't receive any encouragement from school coaches etc.

that's the problem though andy, most aren't - though it is improving slowly.

Hopefully the new rules and emphasis will make that slow improvement faster.

The club I'm at isn't about physical attributes either, the coaches try to develop players. I think people are getting better at it but I still think too many coaches are just playing to win at youth level instead of developing

What about Manchester United, or Arsenal, or Spurs, could even add City now. They play attacking football, where the fans demand to be entertained too, and I'm pretty sure they are English!

Too many coaches have mini-Fergie syndrome shouting and bawling at 7 year old lads so they can tell all their mates how good their team is. Sad men.

Andy,

there are exceptions to the rule, but have a walk through your local park when a few kids matches are taking place.

The shouting and abuse from the parents is enough to put a lot of talented kids off of the game forever.

Lennon plays the English way though. Kick and rush football. And he is lightening quick.

So if you paid attention to what I posted, you'd know what I was on about. Instead you plunged headfirst into a debate after being told "do one or take part".

We're talking about youth level football

How many English players are in those teams?

Why does the national team seem to struggle every tournament?

Andy he took offence to you mentioning Fergie's name.

This is quite a good interview with Tim Noakes, from lore of running fame albeit about rugby and the pressure for growth and performance enhancers at youth level. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtFrXnvsOkI
