Trapp out! I defended him before the Euros and although I didnt expect us to go through we were so clueless and gutless the ax has to swing. I know Taradelli wants to take over after him but if its going to be more of the same id rather we get someone who isn't so obsessed with his "system" he plays the likes of Green. Can someone honestly say that Coleman shouldn't be a starter? What about McCarthy(played brilliant since Jan)? I can put up with us playing negative tactics as long as we are hard to beat...which we are not.

His press conferances have been a shambles, belittleing the players we have and how could he respond to a journo when asked about McClean, 'is he a friend of your's'.
Rather lose trying to play the game, than watching this dross for two more years.
Agreed, negative tactics can only be justified with results, otherwise you always have the risk of a backlash.
Tonight will be very telling as to the team Trap may put out for the qualifiers. I know Duff will start and captain the side for his 100th cap tonight, but I expect him to announce his International retirement tomorrow. However, the rest of the team will tell us a lot. I swear if Green or McShane set foot on the park he can just go now!
Trap should go not because he is a bad manager or done a bad job but he is just not the right guy to bring the young players through as he proved he doesn't give them a chance
He mentioned well before the tournament his intentions to shake up the team after the tournament and bring in the other players for qualifying i.e. McCarthy, Wilson, Hoolahan, Wilson etc...
The team he has announced for tonight tells us nothing for the future because as he said already the qualifiers will be a "new chapter" and a bunch of these guys may decide to retire.
Anyway I think people need to stop over-reacting here and put things into perspective.
We've nearly qualified for 2 major tournaments in a row under Trap, do you think this would have been easy under any other manager?
I remember a similar kind of over reaction after WC 2002, everyone painted McCarthy the Brit as a villain and argued seriously that we should have got to the World Cup Final, instead of getting knocked out to Spain on an unlucky penalty shoot out...
These critics then got their wish for an irish manager with Brian Kerr and Stan and we then failed to qualify for another tournament until a decade later!!!.... So much for those World Cup Final ambitions
be careful what you wish for lads...
...and remember just because we as irish fans hype up the likes of McCarthy and McClean it doesn't make them world class. stick them out on the field against the likes of Croatia and Spain and they are still vastly inferior and they're not going to change the final result.
No we know there not world class but compared to some other players in the squad they are world class like Clark and Wilson compared to McShane and O' Dea who are next in line to replace Dunne if he retires thats my worry its Trap faith in these average players
You right about that, stan would have been absolutely mauled apart by the media and fans if he brought on Paul Green against Spain.
O'Dea isn't good enough for Leeds... says it all. I have said it for years that McShane isn't LOI standard(no offence to LOI) and any manager that brings them ahead of Wilson or Clark is mad. Greenseriously does he have compromising pics of Trapp? Although we don't have a world class team (and never will) we have the basics for a decent standard team. Its true Spain are miles ahead of us but we shouldn't be losing to Croatia like that(good team but not THAT good)
In all honestly I think even for Trap and Tardelli it would be impossible to justify starting O'Dea and McShane in the team for the qualifers when we have Clark and Wilson... he would get the sack for doing so.
The only reason McShane, Green etc... got into the standby squad was because Trap was showing loyalty for their work in the qualifiers over the last 4 years, but as Trap mentioned WC 2014 qualifers will be a "new chapter" so can't see them being involved anymore, not as 1st XI anyway... and if they are, then of course he deserves the sack!
Like I said they were standby members, they only got in the squad because of all the injuries we had after the initial squad announcement and also McCarthy pulling out after his dad passed away.
I agree lads Darren O'Dea is shocking poor, but can anyone here tell me who else we have in reserve for centre back?
... and don't give me lazy suggestions like Marc Wilson because he's a DM who plays right back for Stoke, I'm talking about an all out natural centre half, we don't have anyone else out there, hence why O'Dea made the cut.
Another reason Trap shouldn't be in charge he is to loyal to these average players
Marc Wilson can play there and played there in the past many times and is well ahead of the likes of O Dea and McShane at that position
He only cares about the present. He doesn’t give a monkeys to the future of Irish football. He’ll be well gone so why should he. Just accept, he’s one of those managers who do not like giving young players opportunities. He would rather play mediocre average experienced players than younger, more exciting but more naive players. For me, Trap has to go
His stubborn decision to ignore players who are actually doing well in the Premiership infavour of players who cant even get game time in the Championship is coming back to haunt him big time!

I used sign him on football manager..... (had to give it up literally lost a couple of years of my life obsessed with that game )I sometimes only signed Irish playersliterally a squad of Irish players playing in the PL. Oh and Ireland won several world cups and Euros during my managerial career
Fair comments lads, but I think the manager should be judged on results first and foremost, and his results over the last 4 years (not just the last 7 days) have been very good and better than anything we've had since McCarthy in '02
Also imback, Wilson could play centre back like you said, so can John O'Shea, so could Roy Keane probably if we dragged him out of retirement, but none of them are actual natural centre halfs are they?
We don't have any natural centre halfs coming through at the moment.
Spearmint when can ya start
@ ColinsBargainBucket - COYBIG! (U6589)
Is Simon Cox a left winger ? Didn't Trap play him there so its proves that doesn't bother Trap so Wilson a former center back up to 12/18 months ago could do alot better job for us than clubless O Dea
Everyone thinks we should congratulate him because he got us to our first major tournament in 10 years. Maybe that’s a reflection as to how poor Staunton and Kerr were! If he had of given players like Coleman, McCarthy, Hoolihan, etc a chance….who’s to say we wouldn’t have qualified for Euro 2012 anyway playing a much better quality football? Oh yeah I forgot……under Trap we’re ‘hard to beat’…….Croatia 3-1, Spain 4-0, Italy ?? Very ‘hard to beat’!!
CBB; J. MacCarthy's father was diagnosed with cancer he hasnt passed away, quite rightly young Mac knew he wouldnt get a sniff of action at this tournament so why waste a month carrying cones like Shane Long, Gibson and other premiership regulars have as Trap picks journeymen plodders. Trap has zero faith in youth and is obsessed with old players and is so called project now lies smashed into a million pieces! Trap out now, we need to rebuild and this old dinosaur is a million miles from being the right man!
Our youngest player used in this tournament is Cox at 25! Trap thinks McClean is too young and inexperienced coz he's 23?? Hodgson used an 18 yr old Cxlade Chamberlin who wouldnt get a sniff of an irish cap if he were irish for 7 more years under this farcical clown!! If the FAI are worrying about attedances at the Aviva before wait till they see them come Sept if Trap and his neanderthal ways re still in charge! TRAP OUT!!!
With regard to the question about the other options we could have chosen as central defenders instead of the likes of O'Dea, what about Clark?
