Tell me this isn't about Wilshere.

henrykamp is correct on this one too. I don't know why people are ripping into him. He's done nothing wrong on this thread.

This reminds of what Guardiola said a year ago:

"Wilshere is a top player. He is an excellent player, not just Arsenal, but also for the national team. [But] he is lucky because we have many players in the second team like him."

Unfortunately I think it was - some strange, very strange, views abound.

Yes. But then I referred to henrykamp. And made a comment which was general. Trust me. If it was about you, you'd know.

To remind you - no one has said he is world class.

As for the role he plays - its as a starting central midfielder in a CL team at 20 years old (he actually nailed down a starting spot at 19). He's also a starter for England when fit.

Not bad really.

jayram, you footballing genius.

Please explain to me how Wilshere is superior to Gotze. I'm aching to laugh.

You will have to give me some time , because I am still laughing at your contribution today

Whilst I am composing myself, why dont you let me know why Gotze is so good that Wilshere is 'not fit to lace his boots'

Okay, I'll bite. He's got unbelievable tekkers for a start which distinguishes him from 99.9999% of all English players. He can dribble past players with ease and picks out the right pass to make with consummate ease meaning he rarely concedes posession. Not only that, but he's got the vision to play those defence-splitting through balls.

Add to that that he has that touch of acceleration that distinguishes the great from the very good, and a feisty combatism to his play which is his English side shining through.

He went toe to toe with the Barcelona midfield at 19 and matched them in every aspect. If he keeps working at his game he has all the attributes to be genuinely world-class. Same as Rooney would be if he worked at his game.

Guardiola trying to psyche us out before a big game? Didn't work too well as I recall.

Have you actually seen Barcelona's midfield. Even if we were to take Guardiola's comment as gospel, which you seem to want to do as it is something for you to hang on to, being good enough to even be in Barca's set up as a midfielder at 19 years old is actually an accolade

jayram turning the tables on me. What a guy.

Ok.

Gotze:

Better dribbler
Possesses a larger array of passes
More creative
More Intelligent
Quicker
Superior technique (shooting, passing, touch, etc)

Wilshere is probably a harder worker. That's it. And strength is debatable. Though Gotze is harder to push off the ball. It's not even close.

They did courtesy of Van Persie's red card. What sort of an Arsenal fan are you?

That's a myth.

What was impressive in that game was that he was decent. He kept things ticking. But no way did he outperform or outmatch Xavi or Iniesta. Absolute bull that is.
