Said it before that the media were just bigging him up so they can knock him down again

The did the exact same thing at the WC

He couldn;t possibly perform at a high level with his fitness, particularly in the heat there. He was visibly sweating after the first couple of minutes

or perhaps you could blame his teammates for simply hoofing the ball forty yard balls up-field and expecting him to chase it, all game.

Is he World Class at club level? Nowhere near I'm afraid
--------------------------------------------------
What are you on about? Name a few better players that can play as a #10 or #9 in various formations.... He is 100% world class, Barca, Real, Bayern... Would take him in a heart beat.

Man Utd have the players to bring out his ability, England do not. Messi would struggle in that England team with little to no service. Ronaldo looked hopeless in that 1st game against Germany, as Portugal sat back and cut off the supply line.

Would Rooney start for Barca? I think not.

Cesc/Xavi don't start every game.... Are they not world class?

posted on 26/6/12

and yes, I think he would start as the left sided forward.

GG not what pep said! He said hell have rooney is a heart beat up front!

I think Villa is better.

Unless your idea of world class is that only 1 player in each position can be world class.... Then that is a moot point.

Poor service
Wrong tactics
The heat

Anything else you want to blame for Rooney's poor first touch, off key passing and his general fitness or lack of it?

Will it be the same for Brazil 2014 - Poor service, too much heat, wrong tactics?

France 2016 - Poor service, boredom, wrong tactics

MrC

Danny's first touch was good, as was his lay offs yet he was largely anonymous too

Rooney can perform much better than that. We simply wasn't fit, like he wasn't at the WC

Such a bloody shame if you ask me but I certainly do blame him for missing the first 2 games!!!

Why is he consistently UTD's best player? Because we provide good service and use good tactics.

They are not excuses, they are simple statements. England are not set up to get anything out of the attacking players... Like I said, Messi would struggle.

comment by GG - The only Swans fan on ja606 , RIP Tom Maynard (U1567)

I think Villa is better.

And yet in the one season that Rooney was played as the main striker for his club he managed more goals that Villa has ever scored playing that role year in year out. Strange that eh?

Macca - He should have ruled himself out if he wasnt fit - Surely the medical staff would have picked up on his fitness issues?

"Why is he consistently UTD's best player? Because we provide good service and use good tactics"

Sorry from what Ive seen. Rooney's first touch sometimes deserts him too when he plays for you. Surely you must have noticed it. His passing has sometimes been lazy this season. Yes he wil get the goals but you usually play against less inferior teams who let you have the ball. You dominate teams. He gets more of the ball. More chances to score. In tournaments you wont get that many chances. you have to be clinical. International tournaments are unforgiving.
Sorry but in tournaments, Rooney just doesnt turn up. He might well go back to Man Utd next season and score 30 goals. Good for him. Helps being part of one of the best teams in the league. Internationally, he's not part of the best team but that doesnt excuse his rubbish passing, his poor first touch and his wastefulness in front of goal.

Thats 2 tournaments now you've said he's been unfit. Why on earth is he going to these things then?

So what happened in 2004 then?

posted on 26/6/12

Is he the same player now as he was back in 04?

posted on 26/6/12

I'd be quite happy if he never played for England again.

He is not the same player as he was in 2004. His creativity has been lost and his mind has been corrupted with money.

Mr chelsea Rooney should have not gone in 2006 and 2010 as he had 2 broken bones and a bad ankle......yet the media and fans demanded he went and guess what he didn't do too well......wonder why!? The one torn he's played in fit he was outstanding but ffs then team need to play to him not hoofing the ball up to him. At one time he had 5 Italians around him with the nearest player 30 yards away....he actually managed to get a corner through battling but his face said it all.....no one helped him! Yet nimpties say he's lazy not trying yeah right....in truth they just hate him because who he is and who he plays for......and you wonder why united fans don't care about England. And while we're at it...who's to blame for 2014 while we're at it???!!
