so what do you rank tonight's opening ceremony? I'd give it around a 6/10 based on the benchmark that China set
had a good ending, the queen parachuting, mr bean, and the cauldron lighting.. the rest was pretty meh
it was 10/10
jog on yankiedoodle
i thought the theme of the opening ceremony was 'for everyone' !!
I missed it & all the videos of it online have been pulled due to 'rights'
Use a UK proxy Pattaya and watch it on iplayer.
Just don't take any psychadelics first - if the giant scary baby doesn't do you in, Mr Bean in Chariots of Fire certainly will.
You get life fore that kinda' thing here Kimchi !!
Personally was a bit sceptical at first but when the red arras flew over my house into Stratford I thought I'd give it a go and actually was impressed. Got the best guy to do it and apart from macca there were no cringe worthy moments. The rings were awesome and the lighting of the torch was very very special. Made me proud to be British.
What's everyone watching?
Morning mate
was going to go0 to walton to watch the cycling but last to bed so watching our girls in the rowing at dorney lake, cycled round it last week, amazing place.. our girls are smashing them
From my Google news page...
Jeremy Hunt narrowly avoids injuring spectators as his Olympic bell.end...

Admin1.. did you enjoy the ceremony last night ?
Was OK. Not my kinda thing. Sat and watch the Millennium dome spectacle show thingy years ago and it is all much of a muchness to me.
I thought it told a fantastic story of our country, my other half didnt enjoy or get it at all
The rings were amazing , only down side was macca at the end
it totally missed out our best 150 years.
not a massive surprise these days i suppose, but i dont see how you can do a history of the united kingdom (albeit an abstract artisit one) without referencing that period.
JPB
did you want to see us slaying the french and Spanish then last night
Parade a few slaves, put a few heads on stakes
In parts it was like Pink Floyd The Wall video with the freaky giant blow up things. The start was good and loved Jerusalem, we definitely missed some salient points in history
i would have thought that it would have been possible to reference waterloo yes.
admin1 doesnt like us talking about slavery, but as a quick ref, i would say yes, britain's role in aboloshing global slavery could also have been referenced.
i can understand why they didnt, but im a bit critical of how they presented a partial history without reference to the period when we rules the waves.
if i was going to do something historical and not just cultural i think i would have shown :
1. bloody battles between scots, english, irish welsh
2. forming of the union
3. industrial revolution
4. waterloo
5. expansion of trade overseas
6. establishment of colonies
7. britain's role as international peace keeper
8. britain's role in the world wars
9. britain's modern culture
Yeah, going round to a mates to watch it at 12.30. Unlike TDF, no race radios which would make any break-aways very risky.
Waterloo wasn't a British victory.
I was disappointed there was no referencing to cups of tea, sandwiches and queuing.
