Yeah the abuse is totally wrong I agree. I just don't really want to jump on the Daley bandwagon.

You could just jump on the Team GB bandwagon

I suspect if Eniss flopped and started sobbing Twitter would not be short of abuse. Some people will always want to be contrarian so they can feed of the attention.

Additionally from where I am sitting the interviews and documentaries are all fine and good but I am not going to base my opinions on athletes based on them. Daley's personal story is very touching and it is fantastic that he has had the level of success but the media are hardly likely to slate one of their athletes. I'm sort of down the middle with him. I'm not exactly a fan of his but I don't hate him and hope he does well for himself.

Whereas with athletes like Cavendish he can come across as arrogant and abit of a sore loser some times in interviews and people have had a go at him for it. But after reading a fair bit about him i've got a great deal of respect for him.

On a completely different not I felt abit sorry for Waterfield today. It's kind of as though he was Daley's +1 rather than an equally talented diver who has a silver from Athens. I felt that was quite sad.

GB wins!

I am on the Team GB bandwagon. Tell you what I feel far more confident of Idowu doing well in the triple jump than Ennis in the heptathlon. He's been playing his event down in the months building up to it, injured or not injured. Whereas Ennis' face has been plastered everywhere for it. I don't blame her at all for it, as shes clearly there are some huge benefits to it as shes probably made a fortune through sponsorship that many associated with athletics would rarely get. However, with that comes the media glare and the pressure that comes with it.

AVB, I guess with Waterfield it's because Daley was so young in Beijing, the nation just took to him and focused on him rather than them as a pair. If he had been older, I doubt there would be such a fuss made over him. Look at the 15 year old girl who won the swimming gold - it's even more amazing because of her age.

Ennis has made £1m in endorsements I understand.

Women's volleyball Well done girls. Hopefully that'll give them a huge confidence boost and they can take the momentum forward.

Volleyball! Great achievement

Blueblood - Agree. Because he is young he is going to gain most of the focus. I just find it sad that Waterfield wouldn't really get any attention if they won a medal. For instance on the bbc website at the moment they have a caption saying 'The botched fourth dive was a hammer blow for Daley and his diving partner'. Bit unfair on Waterfield really. That 15 year old swimmer was an amazing story. Some moment for her.

Pretty sure Ennis got a top of the range car for free from a sponsor recently. It's just crazy.

If Ennis has made a million, fair play, has probably got up every morning at 5 am and sacrificed every friday and saturday night since she was 12.
Compared to footballers she's worked a whole lot harder.

Very true. She deserves the rewards for her sacrifices but the pressure the media her put on her. I just hope that other athletes have got the same kind of benefits from the Olympics in the build up to the games and the future.

Watching women's volleyball on Wednesday. Hopefully it's as good as the game that just happened

The 'kids' are the future of the sport so they will naturally get the most attention. Also helps that the likes of Jess and Tom look good on camera.

On a side note, I didn't realise the gymnasts were so young themselves!

AVB,agreed, a lot of them will have been to the games won nothing and probaly wasted a lot of time and money in doing so.

in football, once you hit 30 consensus is you should be put out to pasture.
Gymnastics it seems to be set at 18.

Mark Cavendish was an idiot on Saturday. Why should other countries help Team GB? Unbridled arrogance from the lad.

posted on 31/7/12

I can understand Cavendish's frustration, there was a lack of ambition from other countries to even compete for medals, which in turn held up his own race.

Its not that they should have been helping team GB. But the other guys in the Peloton were wasting their time by doing none of the chase work, as the break-away was 6 mins ahead and if they the peleton didn't catch them they might has well not even bothered getting on a bike that day. It was a one day race where only the fist three medal and there were something like 12 riders in the break-away.

posted on 31/7/12

I see what you mean. However, to be honest it would have been Team GB busting their guts to get Cavendish to a position where he can sprint. He couldn't have won that race by himself. Would it have been right for him to have won it?

In hindsight team GB should have kept in touch with the break away and left 3 min gap tops, but you couldn't have predicted that 50+ riders just going for what amounted to a fun bike ride.

posted on 31/7/12

As none of the riders were miked up,as in le tour,it was difficult for them to see how things were going.
When the lead was down to a minute, there is no way the peloton can catch a large group(20) if all don't play their part.
