It's a bit pathetic that you seem to seek the approval of other teams fans to justify your own faith in your team.

It's understandable though id be cracking up if my team could consistently get into the cl yet fail to ever actually win it or even win a domestic trophy for 8 seasons or however long.

Van Persie is still in Arsenal colours... Despite him saying he wants to leave???

Well alot of your fans are justifying league cup and 8th place as success. I just wanted to see what other teams see as success.

The pertinent point is your best players leave you despite you finishing above us... They want to be classed as winners, not also rans... ie arsenal

Does it not come into your consideration that those players are all partly responsible for Arsenal not winning trophies. They don't have any right to criticise the club if they can't do the business on the pitch. There's no 'I' in team.

IT'S SEVEN YEARS NOT EIGHT.

Liverpool have lost as many key players as we have.

From the past few years the players we miss:

Fabregas, Nasri, Clichy

Whereas Liverpool miss:

Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Arbeloa.

And with players like Van Persie and Agger possibly leaving.

It's the same for both clubs.

Of course it is better for LFC to qualify for the Champions League......

And we have won it 5 times!!!!!

Not really we accept that we are rebuilding as one does with a new manager.

After going through the mill with hicks and Gillet we appreciate what FSG have done. Whereas arsenal having a stable setup for over a decade cannot keep their best players.
Players refusing to sign new contracts and can't get new ones agreed...

Lack of trophies one suspects... That's arsenal !

Who says agger is leaving? Not agger...

"dear arsenal fans, I won't be signing a new contract" - RVP!

No, our best players leave because 1. We don't pay them enough compared to the other elitist clubs and 2. they want to win big trophies like the CL or PL. If we finished 6th, 7th or 8th but won a League Cup each year, there is less chance of our better players even wanting to be anywhere near Arsenal because the league finishes are rubbish and the League Cup isn't a trophy that modern players who play for big clubs actually care about these days.

Really?

Must be strange how Liverpools big name players have no intention of leaving after winning the league cup... Even Suarez who was only on 35 k a week.

posted on 11/8/12

Arsenal fans are understandably fed up with not winning anything.. Will it be another 8 years? If your star players keep leaving... I suppose it could be many more years.

Are you having a laugh? You haven't even been close to finishing back in the top four since you finished 7th in 09-10 and you've lost Mascherano, Torres, Alonso, Arbeloa, Benayoun, Sissoko and perhaps others who I can't remember that have moved on to bigger and better things.

I know not all of these have left since you've dropped out of the top four, but don't try and act as if you haven't lost key players when you've had frustrating seasons because you're clearly just lying to me and to yourself.

Arsenal fans are fed up of not winning anything, but we've seen how hard it is to get back in once you drop out which is why it is imperative to sustain Champions League football each season. You are just being blinkered if you honestly think that Arsenal finishing 7th every season but winning a League Cup would help us maintain our best players.

That was what I'd said, emphasis on "after winning the league cup"

So Samir, if you'd like to re-post based on my actual quote and not the half sentence you picked out.

Cheers...

if the cup was more inportant than top 4. why did craig bellamy say he would rather top 4 than capital one cup?

posted on 11/8/12

Ramsey let me say that it's not more important.. It isn't. However winning something is important, which is what we are talking about.

How would a player feel at the end of his career, not winning a thing?

posted on 11/8/12

sorry, i was still talking about the OP

ok, would you rather, at the end of your career. have 1 league cup medal, or to have played in the biggest club competition with a chance to win it every year? id pick the CL, maybe because im an arseal fan but i would.

posted on 11/8/12

A player at the end of his career would take a medal over no medal full stop.

The CL spot is better for the club as a whole and for future seasons though.

posted on 11/8/12

The thing is the CL cash is significant and should give the club a massive opportunity to re-invest that and a fantastic opportunity to win trophies.

Arsenal are approaching a decade of no trophies despite being ever present in the champions league for that time.

No wonder players are leaving... 8 years is a fair chunk of anyone playing career.

Well we'll see how that changes if you consistently keep finishing in 6th/7th/8th. Not to mention, you have one of the highest wage bills in the league so that probably gives your players' incentive to stay if they know other clubs won't be willing to pay as much for their services.

Personally I think you'll finish no lower than 7th but as high as 5th. Can't see you breaking back into the top 4 just yet though.
