I still don't see Charlton as the main threat this season, I reckon they'll be kicking around the top 8 but far from favorites.

4 more good signings to add to the already good signings and i'll be having an each way punt on us to go up!

Trouble in Paradise?

by I'm Spartacus (U1650) 28 June 2011Comment on this Article As per-usual ...fan of region's top team...in peace.

My source within swillsboro informs me that Mandy and Ginge are really not singing from the same hymn sheet over transfers...

...mmmm, I wonder how that will turn out...?

I don't think I've ever read a positive article about wednesday in the Yorkshire Post. However, Meggy has got form when it comes to making excuses, that said, we are light up front.

I've had a light grilling from people in recent months about my views on Megson. Seems some people are cottoning on.. and if that rag is anything to go by it states he's after another defender???
...it has to be a joke as we need a midfielder and attacker first and foremost.

I'll keep sticking to my 'blind optimism' before the hell hounds start baying...but seriously we've got to wake up and expect a very long very hard season ahead

If we get Mellor and O'Grady everything suddenly starts to look a lot better.

I have to take your posts with a pinch of salt as they're generally ill informed and knee jerk.
Just because Megson see's Charlton as a rival, does that justify all the noise you made about not signing 9 players in a week?
I'd wager that you couldn't give an accurate assessment of more than a couple of those 9 players.
Megson's just playing the spin game to give Mandaric - and any other bureaucrat involved - a kick up the ars e to speed things up and deflect any fan flack into what he sees as the right direction.
You don't think that stories like this are getting printed in the local rag up and down the country?

Not worried yet and after beating Worksop Yes I know Worksop 3.0 today still not worried after all the blunts were crowing at winning the same team 1.0 last week end. I'm sure Meggy will bring in a striker and left midfielder at least before August arrives.

Couldn't agree more Professor. Its all mind games, he knows exactly which players are likely to come and will have a couple in reserve in case things don't work out.

We need 2 strikers, 1 CM (I'm not counting JOC as a realistic option if we are serious about promotion) and 1 winger who can first and foremost deliver a decent cross.

As a matter of interest...Who do you think should be in charge of transfers...The manager or the chairman?

posted on 16/7/11

Why are you interested?

Your number one transfer target has already turned you down to stay with the mighty Owls, so do one.

Err...I can say with the utmost confidence that Beevers did not (as yet) have any say in that move...watch this space...

Any who...Mandy v Ginge....Civil War...Who do you reckon your next boss will be

I totally apologies for my ill informed article, the link of which I took from the papers own website. Also my knee jerk response that I have been saying since before the infamous date of the 30th June when we would sign all these new players.

Hopefully that will be accepted

I think that the defender is Danny Batth, and would take him tomorrow. And think that we need at least one more striker and also a winger that can put in a good ball at least twice in a match. Lets not go totally overboard.

Statesideowl – lets hope that come September me and you are stood together eating a massive plate of told you so, served up by the Prof and Consilio themselves. And I will gladly eat it all if we are scoring and winning.

This is posturing on GM's part. He knows that this kind of statement will get the fans on his side rather than MM or Aldridge. Secondly, it should have the effect of getting MM and Aldridge to compromise by loosening the purse strings to get the players that Megson wants.

I think the article needs a bigger picture of meggo. The one they have right now isnt clear enough

posted on 17/7/11

As someone mentioned earlier, the Yorkshire Post has never done a good article on Wednesday.

posted on 17/7/11

Totally 100% behind Meggo but he can see the dangers of leaving it late in the transfers Southampton fans were expressing the same concerns this time last season look at what happened to Pardew.

We need some fresh signings very soon or I predict a slow start just hope Meggo dont get the sack as a result of this

Oh yes can people stop the whinging about our CM? we have replaced 2 Miller and Potter with Semedo and Prutton JO'c is good cover also we have Palmer and Coke JOC has taken a 1 year deal thus Meggo who had JOC at West Brom and knows what he is/was capable of is laying down a challenge (earn the next contract )

We need widemen strikers and a naturally right footed CH this for the simple fact that it is easier for the defender to remain goalside of the attacker (coming in on the defenders right) and still get a last gasp foot in if the naturally dominant foot is the right foot hopefully preventing clumsy tackles and penalties conceded.

Not being funny the work achieved this close season by M+M is pretty astonishing £1.3 million shaved off the wagebill inclusive of the 4 new additions and 3 new deals

Now we need the cherry on the cake to finish it off if we dont get the last pieces of the squad puzzle soon I predict a shaky start to the season

There are question marks over the CM because Prutton hasn't played well for three years. Ask any Swindon fan. We need to hope that he can return to the form over five years ago. I think the re-signing of JOC has upset most fans.

posted on 18/7/11

Prutton may not have played well at Swindon but Danny Wilson has a tendency as a manager of making good players play decidedly average football Meggo is just looking for a warlike midfield.

I think hes got the CM right but we shall see by winter

posted on 18/7/11

And JOC will either improve or be out on his ear

I'm willing to give him another season

posted on 18/7/11

Prutton was playing badly before he joined Swindon although having Danny Wilson as manager couldn't have helped. Let's hope that he can return to the way he was playing five years ago.

JOC is the one stand out mistake that GM has made. JOC has taken us backwards with relegation and last season's pitiful effort. I saw every league game last season and he is the worst midfield player that we have had in the last 30 years. I just hope that he doesn't cost us next season. Hopefully, Prutton, Semedo, Palmer & Coke play well enough to keep him out of the first team squad.

posted on 18/7/11

I think Meggy is just concerned because as we only have three weeks left till Kick Off, he wont have time for his new signings (whoever they may turn out to be) to blend in and get to know the other players via PS Friendlies, dont know if King Mandy & Aldridge are testing the water first by offering cheaper fee's for players first then making improved terms so therefore I ca understand both parties here, yeah im fustrated too but I think it'll come together this week, just a hunch!!

Did you ever see Scott Oakes, Danny Sonner, Paul McLaren, Ronnie Wallwork, Darren Potter, Lewis McMahon, Kenny Lunt, Craig Rocastle or many many other worse players than JOC play then? I guess not

posted on 18/7/11

Surely you cant be saying that JOC is better than that lot JOC is on a par with that lot abilty wise, or lack of it (Bar Potter, he played in the wrong footballling team to suit his style of play), the only thing I like about JOC is his workrate, but it counts for diddly squat if you have little ability, Seriously Id've ridded JOC if I was Meggy

posted on 18/7/11

True Consilio there's plenty to choose from in terms of terrible players we've had, but that doesn't mean we should still be signing them...and re-signing them
Those losers are a past memory JOC isn't he's still here!

The more frequently Mugson plays JOC the more it will cost us, if he hasn't got the ambition to strive for better then he can expect what he gets. Our midfield has been sh*te for a few seasons now.
