Jordan Rhodes is worth the risk. Failing that the Huntelaar would be the man.

Why would Spurs sell him? He's one of their main strikers

For a fan who likes to brag loudly about your team's chances this year under Brendan Rodgers, you really haven't the slightest clue what he's about and the kind of players he wants.

AHB:...Really? Well its about opinions so i will respect yours, however please tell me why Defoe is NOT a BR type player??

Jordan Rhodes....see jermaine beckford

Jordan Rhodes is a natural preditor, Beckford is a different player altogether.

Defoe is a decent goalpoacher who can find the target by lashing the ball occasionally. He's got a good eye for goal. But BR requires more than just that even from his strikers. He likes his players to be able to link up with the rest of the team, meaning they have to be intelligent in both movement and passing.

I doubt you will get the sort of prolific striker you're talking about here as imo, Rodgers wants his entire team to contribute goals rather than rely on a talisman. You may go for a more prolific striker than what you have, but he won't be in the mould of a goalpoacher.

Please take any rudeness from my post as a sign of respect for your new manager and his style of football.

I know, my point is that they both looked good in the lower divisions. Jamie cureton banged in a record 23 goals in the 06/07 season for colchester! Winning him the championships golden boot. Do you see him banging them in, week in, week out, now, in the prem? No! Because he is playing for the mighty exeter. All the people banging on about rhodes have this romantic, Roy of the rovers view of him but realstically, he won't probably pull up any trees in the prem, ergo...beckford.

I don't rate Defoe and he's not a good finisher.

AHB..Intresting that you think Defoe does not link with the team or posses good movement or passing, i think he has exactly that!

We don't need any more strikers.

Infact I would go as far to say we aren't really desperate for any players at the moment. Maybe an inside-forward, but Suarez, Borini, Assaidi, Sterling & Downing can all play out wide, so unless B-Rod really thinks we lack strength in that area (we do slightly), I'd say we're fine.

I dislike Defoe. Shooting from outside of the box seems to be his only plus point from when I see him.

I'd have takin a little gamble on Olic! Superb little player who works so hard for the team and he's a good finisher!

I've been saying this for ages!!

We need a recongised or a well scouted striker, I agree with Borini is for the future, but dont think Defoe would come and he can be inconsistent anyway!

If the huntelaar rumours were true I'd be so very happy.

Mine you it's almost certainly rubbish. Not the type of player we sign. Doesn't fit BRs style, high wages, old and large transfer fee, lazy attitude.

Great player though

Yeah Defoe is the answer to all our problems, another past his best, overpriced British player.

Just what we need.

I still think Dempsey will move.... But where??

From his living room to the kitchen??

I think most people are giving Defoe a hard time, heres proof he has what we WANT...GOALS!

League, this is most important for us:

Games:383 Goals: 142

More importantly, recent seasons (league):

2012/13...1 goal in 2 games
2011/12...11 goals in 25 games
2010/11...4 goals in 22 games
2009/10..18 goals in 34 games

Ok,not sure what happened in 2010/11 but apart from that, to me he has EXACTLY what we require....i cant see and arguement..not one! Apart from that off season, hes got a 1:2 strike rate recently and my god do we NEED that type of conversion!!

Defoe's passing game isn't good enough to work in our system. He also never tracks back/presses

posted on 27/8/12

According to Macca on Liverpool Rumours (he has got plenty right this summer), Carroll is 90% to leave this week, and the fee will be undisclosed (pretty predictable that bit).

If that is the case then I am sure we will be signing a striker this week, but it won't be Defoe as I don't think he is a Rodgers type centre forward.

BR likes his players to press, starting from the front.

Defoe is a player who's work ethic is questionable, so I can't see him being a player who will fit into BR's plans. Basically he's a lazy barsteward.

posted on 27/8/12

I don't think Defoe is lazy per se, more he is just the type of striker who sees his job as scoring goals and not a lot else.

Rodgers wants players who work for the unit, not just do their particular job and then switch off.
