Still around RP, just observing from a distance..

You know my views regarding Millen, something I got slated for before the end of last season......I really hope I'm wrong.....but a top 6 IMO is as you say just daft....

Forget more strikers etc....right from the opening of the transfer market we should have brought in a creative midfielder and a couple of experienced defenders.....as by now with the friendlies they would be just gelling in....

For Me.....Millen has NO more excuses, as he used all of them last season..

We have needed to strengthen the defence as a matter of urgency since the latter part of GJs reign.

Milly, as a defender himself (and quite a good one) MUST know this - its obvious.

I can only assume that established players don't want to play for him... (?)

well he has tried to get us defenders but all have gone to different clubs or stayed at there own

Spence Caulker Jones now you cant say if we had all 3 of them we wouldnt be top 6, hes trying just players are going to better clubs than us

plus he wants to get some on loan defenders ive heard loads of rumours linking us to west brom, spurs, chelsea and arsenal

also one to mention Tom Cruise *football for arsenal was released hes a centre back, worth a pop

and RP dont be so damn miserable, reading that was depressing you should be looking foward to the season getting excited as, as it stands we are more than likely of making top 6 and i believe we will

gunna stick £20 on 5th place and to win play offs

Excuses for what onefor?

Shiny, I can't speak for Redprint, but he is absolutely right about the defence.
Milly isn't stupid and I have no doubt he is trying hard, but there are some big name managers in this league which he isn't one of.

With the likes of Leicester buying everything in sight (apart from Maynard) and West Ham Leeds and Florest with their pedigrees and history, Cardiff simply ignoring their debts and splashing the cash its a very difficult market to do business in.

That having been said its what he's paid to do.

r&w - yes Rp is correct on many points there, but the clubs you mention (namely WHam, Forest, Leicester, and yes, even Cardiff are bigger and more attractive clubs than we to any ambitious young players. Ask yourself who you as an unbiased player would go to.

That is not to say City cant or wont become one of those, but its 30 years since we were in the top flight and thats 25 years in the 3rd & 4th divs (olde Style).
Having eyes open, I happen to think KM has done and is doing a sound job thus far, but his main sticking point has been recruiting defenders. Dont forget, it was KM who recruited Caulker, not GJ or Cloppall.
Its going to take a lot of patience from us (and yes I know we only have a limited time with Maynard, and probably a few others so we dont want our window of opportunity to close) but I really dont think moaning about the fact that we dont have a 'Hollywood' manager is helping us. Remember Clappall!

BRR - I am not milly-bashing. He did well with Caulks, Spence and Rose (not my favourite I admit).

I am merely pointing out that we have had this crisis for nearly 2 years now - its not new. Some people (Redprint being one ) has been preoccupied with the CM position, but it is the back 4 that needs strengthening and has done for some time.

I am worried - I really am.

I mentioned the back 4 soon after Wembley, before the next season had even begun.
I too am worried, as i'm sure many of our supporters are, including the hierarchy at AG. KM is beginning to wear a haunted look again during interviews (note Torquay). Sorry Keith mate, but that comes with the job as you well know.

Just to put this into perspective, two decent signings would put this situation to bed and set us up for a dingdong season. We just need a lucky break in the transfer market, and hopefully this will happen.
Its now all systems go Keith, to go out and find a defensive powerhaus.

Sorry mate IMO a waste of £20....

I'm not feeling it with Millen......I think if we're not careful it will be more like bottom 5..

Doom and Gloom merchant you may accuse me to be....but IMO the job is far too big for Keith and I have a bad feeling we will struggle..

Lacy _ Boy

The Coppell excuses used time and time again
Injuries, time and time again....

What about playing players out of position?
Wrong formations?
Wrong tac tics?
Wrong selections?

I said in the last half of last season that Millen was not the right manager if we are looking to progress..

And I have not changed my mind..

Believe me.....I really hope that I'm wrong, cus I don't care who the manager is so long as Bristol City are doing well.

One for....is now waiting for the usual back lash

onefor no backlash however I do want to see what happens at the start of the season before making judgements on Keith Millen, I wasn't too enamoured of his appointment but he did better in the end than I thought he would given the way he had to take over.
I have never heard KM blame Copplle for the shambles that last season was and our injury list was at times lengthy which resulted in some players being played out of position - It's not his fault Stewart and Hunt were not up to scratch he didn't sign them and he has tried to sign better defenders with the wages of some of the players he has inherited he will be somewhat restricted as to what he can spend on the wage front if we are sticking to the UEFA agreement on finance.

Always thought Millen had a charisma bypass and it's now really worrying that he still hasn't managed to bring in 2 defenders.
He's now on record saying he's not even close to signing any defender and that he's really frustrated.
What a pathetic comment and is just not good enough.
He's had more than enough time, even allowing for his TWO holidays this summer.
He's paid to manage City and not whinge about frustrations.
He has a fantastic job and salary.
EARN IT.

PS - The back 4 selected tonight is lamentable.
Survival with that back 4 in the Championship is very very unlikely.
Millen really has to get his ass in gear.

PPS - 'Dont forget, it was KM who recruited Caulker, not GJ or Cloppall' - 20p is the person we have to thank for Caulker.

'preoccupied with the CM position'
R&W - Why turn this into a LJ thread
Anyway, I was 'preoccupied' with nepotism. Nothing else.
Check the games Junior has played since GJ left.
Not wrong am I.

Millen on the OS.
'We are still waiting on three or four phonecalls. One day we may get a yes'.
'ONE DAY' just about sums up Millen.

I do understand onefor
It is always a balancing act with these things, but I for one have seen enough to suggest he could make a real dogs dinner of it (thats good by the way).
My own personal thoughts are that if he can put us in the play-offs this season then we cant expect any more than this and anything else is a wonderful bonus.
Alternatively, if we end up mid-table or worse by the end of it then there will be a reckoning to be had.
Lets just say I am optimistic (but I wont be putting £20 on it).
Lets judge him on the final position and give him a season of his own to make our conclusions. He deserves it in my opinion for twice digging us out of a real hole (GJ & C_r_a_p_a_ll)

Keefer didn't put his 'phone on silent while watching all those DVDs did he?

I just think its surprising that Milly has had so much trouble recruiting DEFENDERS, considering its the position he used to occupy.

Oh, and its probably Wiggley who found Caulker, Spence and Rose - from the U21s.

Pirate - you are a gashead
Why should we listen to you ?

R&W
Thing is now he is a manager, not a player, so what he did before isnt so relevant.
On your other comment, we dont know that.
Have you any evidence ?
If all you want to do is shoot down the manager then methinks you are missing the point of supporting a football club

posted on 19/7/11

BRR - Playing is soooo relevant.
Whatever position you play you really appreciate and understand what makes a good defender, midfielder or striker.
The opposite is true also, Stan Harland told me I was the worst player he'd ever played against!

BRR - Even Millen has admitted it was Twentyman who recommended Caulker to City. Twentyman confirmed it on a radio phone-in back end of last season.

'methinks you are missing the point of supporting a football club' - Listen to yourself !

BRR - I have not blasted Milly - I always try to give the incumbant the benefit of the doubt - you seem to forget all my posts supporting GJ on the old 606 plus my comment earlier about not Milly-bashing. I acknowledge he is probably doing his best.

I am merely voicing frustration that the club I love has still got the defencive frailties it had 2 seasons ago. Whose fault that is is for debate, but it is there - fact. Milly says it himself.

My comment about Wiggley wasn't supposed to be a put-down either.

I am one of the more positive posters on here normally, but I am VERY nervous at present.
