Erm because we've lost out on fees over the past two years for players leaving for nothing, and gradel am afraid aint signing another.
Makes sense to me
I see now my post looks like im whining, whereas I'm actually just looking for thoughts.
Although, I would still like to see us keep him, as its getting late to be adding a winger to a list of players we are looking for. Unless Grayson has Watt lined up which I'v heard aswell.
Irishleeds
I didnt actually see it has whining, just concerned.
Id love us to keep him too, but its in the best interests of the club to sell now than get nothing in a year
Ah ya I know you didn't I was just clarifying.
Although if we got a bit of money for him and Watt came in and got a decen run of games, that might work out alright. Im more worried about the fact that we might sell him thinking we had someone lined up and it falls through. Like what happened with Kasper.
From Grayson's comments yesterday it seems we're not offering any new contract, in which case I can see us following teh Kasper route.
I'd have a go with Lloyd Sam or Nunez on the wing, trouble is it's not Leeds cashing in it's Bates!
I think if he doesn't want to sign we should keep him anyway. We should take the gamble because the 2/3 million we will get for him is way overshadowed by th 50mill you get for getting in the prem. Its not like we are desperate for the dosh.
WTF is going on with the management. It is wrecking my nut lately. Gradel has done us well since he came in. A real star last year. The least we can do is offer him a new contract. Ok i understand why we sold Kasper. His long punts up the field were buzz wrecking! But Gradel I feel has matured a lot since his sending off 2 seasons ago and has really come on.
If there is no contract coming well then I guess it's bye bye Max. Thanks a million for your commitment last year, you're a star!

The Hammers bid £2.5m for Gradel – an offer which Leeds rejected out of hand – but Grayson has spoken to the 23-year-old about his immediate future and claimed Gradel is “quite happy” with United’s plan to retain him.
The dismissal of West Ham’s proposal, which is understood to have included various add-ons, might spell the end of their pursuit of Gradel and the London club are not expect to raise their valuation before the start of the season.
Gradel’s contract at Elland Road expires next summer and the former Leicester City trainee, who cost Leeds £200,000 18 months ago, would be available on a free transfer before the 2011-12 term unless United tie him to a new deal.
The club are not believed to have made Gradel a written offer of a contract extension and there is little expectation in either camp of him negotiating fresh terms in the coming weeks, but West Ham’s move to exploit that situation failed to tempt Leeds to cash in on the Ivory Coast international.
Gradel has trained with Grayson’s squad in Scotland throughout this week.
Grayson said: “I’ve had the opportunity to talk to him and explain the situation. He’s quite happy and he’ll keep working hard for the team and himself, as he always does.
“If there’s anything else to tell him then I’ll keep him informed but, from time to time, players can be misled by what they hear.
------------------------------------
So Gradel has gone from loving the club to being quite happy and plans to retain him don't currently include a new contract.
Why are people surprised that we're now seeing his name linked to a number of clubs?
Jonty
He's on his way isnt he.
That's what I thought when I read it yesterday.
I want to hear that the club sits down with teh player, explains the plans, how they can fulfill their ambitions with us, how they'll not get such great fans elsewhere etc and the player stays.
Surely that is something Grayson needs to be bringing to the table, the ability to talk players into staying as opposed to talking them into leaving.
There is some really gulliable people on, who go on about how much gradel he loves the club.
And I take the he's "quite happy" comment as
he thinks he can treble his wages now elsewhere and wants to leave if someone comes in for him.
players can be misled by what they hear

he could be very well talking about the players' agents LIW. We all know how greedy they are when another club starts sniffing around one of their players.
We just have to wait and see.
But with his 18 goals and Bechio and Somma's 30 goals, we'll be hard pushed to be anywhere near as potent in front of goal next season.
But, if he does leave this pre-season, you can bet it will all be Max's fault of course.
The club have said 'they don't NEED to sell' but when you look at the price we pay for players it's easy to say that, Gradel cost 200k, so keeping him could be the difference between promotion and missing out again, even if we were to go up and lost him at the end of the season, it would still be good buisness.
I think we should retain him and take the gamble, what price would we really get for him? 3m maybe? If that money was going back on the squad then i would say sell in that case, but i think it would go on something else and a free/loan would come in, so might as well keep him and push for promotion.
His agent wants 25k a week. Does that sound like a player who loves the club or money?
carlos, I've seen a tweet or 2 about 25k, as Grayson says, maybe you shouldn't believe everything you hear
Carlos
or maybe loves his family and wants to secure their future.
Id agree with you if he was on 80k a week and wanted 120k, thats greedy
But if he's on 6k and and could go up to 25k, he might never get that chance again.
If he can get 25k why sell yourself short
I say sell him!
He is worth 10k a week, nothing like 25k!
I dont think he will have as good a year as he did last season for a long time anyway!
And the money been talked about for him, is a very good transfer fee.
I know not many on here believe that the money will be spent, but that is a differnt issue.
If i was running the club, I would sell, and spend a million on 3 or 4 players each depending on how much we get.
Liw, I think he paid back his debt last year anyway. What I detest is a player declaring their love for the club then pulling this trick.
He has a family to feed, yes. He should stop making immature comments then.
Carlos
So do i mate, that why i ignore when they come out with that rubbish
carlos, he probably made a comment like that in anticipation of Leeds making him a decent offer having just been voted player of the year.
What happens then when club then don't offer you a new contract?
It's obvious your future lies elsewhere.
Can't see how this is Max's fault.
He was offered a contract extension and the reply was that his agent asked for 25k as he could expect to get that elsewhere.
