Mannone is not good enough for Arsenal number 1. Why do people insist on this BS story?

Not like he has much competition at the moment is it?

Fair play to the boy and all that. But I don't rate the Las as a Perm goalie and certainly not a top one. I'd take Chesney over Vito any day of the week. I will say l think he deserves credit for his performance against a rampant French assault on the second half in Montpellier on Tuesday evening...

Exactly Moist. He's done well, but a few games does not mean he should take over as number 1. Besides, i credit the back four much more then the goalie for the clean sheets. It's a credit to our defence that a relatively average keeper can be made to look good. Hoping for more of the same against City.

In goal yes, not if I wanted a debt settled with someone....

Honestly I don't think Mannone is any better than Almunia. As soon as Szczesney is 100% fit we need him back in the team. Hope the rumours of ankle ligament damage are not true.

He's obviously not good enough to be No1 long term but he's good enough to provide Shez with some decent competition and that's a plus in my book

If he keeps keeping Clean Sheets then people will change there minds. If i remember correctly Shez has very poor save to goal ratio compared to other keepers.

I don't thing so. If he was good enough to provide competition then surely that means he's good enough for 1st team at regular games?!

Mannone is just a decent backup. Someone, who if the back four do their job properly, will do a quite job without any excitement. If he's happy with that role, then i'm ok with him staying.

However, we need someone with real experience to provide the proper competition for Szczesny. Someone with a few miles on the clock that we can rely on to push Chezzer that bit further.

I like Mannone. If he wasn't around, who would step in for Sir Chesney when needed?

Fabianski?
Martinez?
Shea?

Maybe we should have kept hold of Lansbury...

There's no "who the funk is Martinez" smiley.

What do you guys class as a good keeper then?

Some of you saying he is not better than Almunia, why is that?

Not wumming just want to know.

Ah right. Melo is a plastic of course. I should have known.

Oh is he now? Based on what? Your exhaustive research on his abilities during his 1 game for Oxford last year? Or his grand total of 2 appearances for Argentinas U-17 side 2 years ago?

He's a kid!

I disagree Serial, the more experienced keepers the Schwarcher's Sorrensons etc that your speaking of are over the hill and happy collecting one more payday, they won't really push Shez, but they'd be decent options if called upon. Vito may not be as good as them but he's young, hungry and wants to make the No1 his own for the next decade, that's a different kind of pressure and one I feel will make Shez and Vito better players.

Martinez was called up to the Argentine senior team before wasn't he?

I think we should sign Craig Gordon, he is still a free agent.

Martinez got called up to the full Argentina side.

So being a kid means he's not capable of becoming a good keeper? That the older you are, regardless of ability, the better you therefore must be?

Martinez is a very good prospect from what i've seen. He's technically sound, great presence and looks like a good professional.

He reminds of a young Casillas.

Couldn't agree with you more, Pat. Well said.

Of course he's capable of becoming a good keeper but that doesn't mean he should be ahead of Mannone in the pecking order.

Have you seen Martinez play?
