Just got back....well about 40 minutes ago.
First off, a decent solid all round team performance, defence solid, midfield solid and strike force decent. Thought today we actually had learned when we need to lump and when its best to pass it as well.We dominated the game possession wise and what disappointed me most today is that we didn't give them a good kicking because they were there to be pounded today, they were really poor. Aside from hitting the post and the Smithies save at the end they didn't really threaten too much. But as I say we should have had the game sown up and won handsomely, it annoyed me a little that we didn't go to Town on em and the last 5/10 minutes was all a bit unnecessary to be honest, although if Birmingham were still playing now I don't think they'd have scored. Just thought we were a bit sloppy second half, giving the ball away willy nilly.
Great win and great performance to a certain extent, stops the rot of defeats anyway and continues are good start. Players to single out for praise today Ward,Hunt,Woods,Gerrard,Clayton and Vaughan.....sign him up,sign him up. Beckford took his goal well but I wish he'd get through a bit more work. I think we are going to better away from home that at home this season, that's our 3rd consecutive win on the road.
Great turn out from the Town fans today but the "your getting sacked in the morning" bollards was uncalled for.
hydy i put it on in daytime early last well morning this thread went up
we seemed to tire a bit in 2nd, but then it was up to B'ham to do their best to recover the game...it wasn't good enough though was it, and we could have easily have scored again...We needed the 2nd goal though, if only for my nerves.. Credit goes to Grayson, he stopped the rot, got the team back on track, made the right changes..which augers well for the future because it shows he has perception and can fix a couple of bad performances a lot quicker than we were used to in days gone by (not a dig at LC, just a fact).
2 weeks off on the back of an away win like that...and a good home game to come next...
those were the days my friend
15 mins on the Football League Show!
yeah, even Steve Claridge was being ok about us...!!
Not seen it but watched full game anyway. Its all happy days. Them lot down rd darent give it this week as we stil above them. Theyre a one man team lets hope becchio is out soon so we can all laugh at their slide down the table
Tez, I watched the highlights of the l666s game. Pelts was outside the box and got a penalty, then Barnsley and Harewood in particular missed a shed load of sitters.
From watching the highlights of the town game, Birmingham didn't seem that bad. Hunt got caught out a few times, and that was never a red card. But we won, now we've got to endure another international break
You don't get the right impression from the football league show. It doesn't show that we pinned Brum back for most of the 1st half. It doesn't tell you that Clarky had to change to long ball footy in the second half with 14ft tall striker coming on at half time before leaving for a early bath.
It didn't show that we were through about 4 against 2 near the end but we tried to be too clever with the pass
Theyre a one man team lets hope becchio is out soon so we can all laugh at their slide down the table
........
Wow Becchio. Really? Ok
very good, strong first half.. good goal could have been others..
they had one shot against the post all down to the full backs covering in behind the centre backs(we have to knock that on the head)..
Lurch came on for them and they lumped it even longer and higher.. Looked more of a big silly sods challenge than a sending off to me..
we then sat back and tried to get the second on the break, almost fatal as smithies had to make a smart save from a close in header(what the f-ck were we doing sitting back there?) im sorry i just dont understand the thinking behind it...
hammill looked sharp, vaughan playing wide showed that he can play anywhere up front and be a handfull and beckford chased more than i have ever seen him do so..
Not interested in lee clark, we beat birmingham at their place its a good 3 points..
Would like to know from larry if he authorised the deep defending against 10 men late in the game...i just think its almost suicidal..
the birmingham keeper made some good saves and they gave him the motm which says a lot about the game..
btw, 1-0 down with 10 minutes left quite a few of the blue noses were leaving, thats a very bad sign for them..
the stewards were a bloody pain in the ars-, too many of them standing for too long in the bloody way and then continually walking up and down and in front of people..
Birmingham city have had a full email from me about it..
away wins are always good in this league..immaterial of who is the opponents manager..
"lee clark is a terrier" was quite amusing and he did give us a wave..
good to see the numbers down there, was pleasantly suprised..
it would be also nice to get a few home wins as to complemet the away wins so to speak , like .
loui..
we might well have to play at home like we do away..
dont try to "play to much" and win the ball much higher up the pitch..
playing one striker with two wide players is ideal away from home, its not at home...if we want to force the game you need to have as many players as possible in the opponents half, one striker and two wide players never seems to allow us to keep any sustained pressure at home..
draw at home and win the away games would be ideal for us "travellers"
its nice to win away but i feel for people like tez who have never been to an away game , so it would be nice to see em win at home for part time fans like him , dont you agree 38?
loui u ever been to a home game?
im going to millwall loui cos im an hard bas tard
if your hard like you say , never mind millwall , i think you should go to see hyde as he like hard boys .
winning home or away its still just 3 points.. we just look better set up and organised away from home.. home it tends to be sporadic attacks and not too much in the way of periods of pressure..
if someone had offered 17 points and 6th position at this stage before we kicked the season off, i think we all would have snatched their arm off..
stay in the mix till january and then have another good look at who is available at what price etc.. we have the money and the right bloke with his hand on the purse and we are looking forward, which is always good..
birmingham, apparently had a load of new stewards starting yesterday and were trying to get them organised.. ok...forgiven...
38 are you suggesting town can finish in top 6 ? dont you think half way is good?
loui if we were midtable then yes. but youve seen that as a team we are capable of competing much further up the table. we are doing it right now so why lower our standards. the message is we are competing round the playoff places lets aim a little higher. answered it for u 38
i hope your right , i would love an other playoff finla , but its our home record that worris me tez and 38
