Cas,
Wrong again - I have never said that Clark was "the best young manager in the Country" and I will never admit I got it wrong, but I might have, had Clark been allowed to see out his contract out in full.
I always said that If he failed to win us promotion, then I would have no qualms about whether he was shown the door or otherwise - so as far as Clark was concerned I got nothing "massively wrong"
Finally, why don't you admit that we had a massive dose of good luck in the "shoot-out", which I reckon was well overdue to us, since Wor Lee never had much.
You need a certain amount of luck to win any penalty shootout, as for him having no luck, your having a laugh Mirf, 43 games of pure luck and frustration. Town did ok under him, despite not because of him.
I 100% agree we had a bit of luck in the shootout, it could have gone either way. As for Clark not having any luck, that's the most ridiculous thing you've ever come out with.
BTW I'm not trying to be disrespectful if that's how any of my posting has come across, I actually think you're a very decent poster and bring a different view to the forums. I just also happen to think you've very wrong about Clark.
birmingham might well have got a draw on saturday with the header just before the end.. after being outplayed and outhought for most of the game.. thats what clark did for us..
it was always going to go wrong and we just saved the worst for the most important games..
whatever it is lee hasnt got it.. given our last 15 minutes on saturday against 10 men im still undecided about larry..
we cant defend in open play in our own box, we get too deep too quickly and for too long.. wherever we are in the league as of now and however good we all believe this start has been that does not change... Maybe larry cant get peter to change his "game" either...??? Time soon to change the player?? I think so..
Cas,
We'd been starved of any success for far too long and when Clark came on the scene (not forgetting Dean's backing), things began to improve.
80 points in his first full season, followed by 87 in his second and probably between 83-86 in his third, had he seen the full season out, gave me and I'm sure many fans a reason to be far more optimistic.
So just because Clark got the bullett, I don't see why I should deny him any of the credit for this boost in my optimism.
No one's perfect and neither was Clark, but I believe he tried his level best to become a successful manager, although as all managers do, he made plenty of mistakes along the way - It's the nature of the business they are in.
What I can't stand are the fans who begrudge him anything whatsoever for his honest efforts for Town, and more so, now he's history as far as Town are concerned, they are now swarming all over the Brum boards and sticking their knives in - why?
So no, I don't believe I was wrong about Clark, who in my honest opinion, although he fell short of reaching the targets set by Deano, albeit by a very small margin for which he deserves some credit.
Mirf do u think deano made the right decision bringing in larry when he did?
his honest efforts to get a move elsewhere were probably what did for him in the end..
we have never ever spent so much and failed....
having spoken to 2-3 people at the club in the last wee, no one misses him..being polite he was quite nauseating.....apparently...
Couldn't handle things not going right. Completely wrong temperament for a manager. Got angry and dejected instead of being measured and philosophical.
In the end just came across as unpleasant and prickly.
Tez,
We got promoted so it can't have been the wrong decision can it?
However, we'll never know what the outcome would have been had Clark seen the season out, although I said all season that it would be case of third time lucky, because it was Town's destiny and time to win a play-off final.
As for 38 saying we have "never spent so much and failed" he conveniently forgets to mention that Town probably balanced the books, when you take into account the £9 million or so, Clark's signings brought in, in transfer fees.
Mirf, the facts and figures are public knowledge (I can't be bothered finding them now). We never once made a profit while Lee Clark was manager. We probably will this year given more away fans and the Rhodes sale, but it's debatable as to whether we would have been promoted with Clark still in charge. We could have been looking at selling him for half what we actually got if we had failed to do so.
M K would have done us in the Semi's,
#LeeClarksRulesOfFootball
If you buy a player for 800k, Pay him a 60k signing on fee and wages of 3k a week for the first twelve months, 6k a week for the second twelve months and 9k a week plus bonuses for the third year,, How much profit have we made if we sell him for 8m ??? Dont forget you also need to consider the "sell on clause" owed to the previous club and probably a few more sweetners !
Player cost = £860,000
Wages = £936,000
Total lay out = £1,796,000
Sold for £8,000,000
net profit of £6,204,000
Obviously any bonus and sell ons come off this but it still looks like a decent profit to me Brycey...
I think if ever you include a players wage in these type of calculations, you do well to make any profit, so Deano has done well here...very well
Wethers,
You say "MK Dons would have done us in the Semi's" if Clark had been in charge.
Based upon what? - because under Clark we met them in 6 league encounters and never once lost, winning 4 and drawing 2, whilst scoring 13 and conceding 6.
Under Clark we would have p-ssed them in both legs and wouldn't have needed extra time and penalties at Wembley against Sheff Utd.
Just a small glass of whatever your having, Cheers Mirf.
Top stats Mirf, don't let this lot grind you down
mirf..
it would have been a semi final and an important game..we never won one of those in normal time under clark..in fact we only won one on penalties.. the "chances" of that particular stat altering against a very good mk dons team were, imo, minimal... We still did our best to b-gger it up, clarks team.... The "clark" influence is still to be seen when Captain Courageous pulls everyone back and throws himself in front of shots and tries to defend headers from 6 yards that we should never have to be defending from that deep...
We dont learn, Leicester were 1-0 up and then 2-0 up but never dropped right back into their own box, they never stayed there for any length of time and they still left people out at corners/free kicks so that they could get out...
Someone at town should be watching and learning and if its just one bloke still running the "defending" show then its time for him to change or go..
38yrs, i completely agree about Peter Clarke, the sooner others wake up and smell the coffee the better, but don't say owt down the grounbd because for some strange reason they love him
He has been improved this season, yes we still defend too deep but I'm starting to think that has to be part of Larry's planning rather than Clarke making all these decisions himself. If Larry didn't like it we'd have stopped doing it by now.
I'm not going to stick the boot into PC as for me he's been the most improved player in our squad this season.
Still does irritating things from time to time but you're not going to be able to wash the spots off this leopard - he is what he is. However, our goals against column would be much more ghastly but for countless blocks by the captain.
If we'd sold him in the summer I wouldn't have given two flying flucks, but credit to him for upping his performances this term.
That being said, I'm always more comfortable when he's alongside Lynch(pin). When paired with Gerrard he is more liable to make the same mistakes which had us all seething last season.
