Thanks TCOCK but I was actually looking for one of those ever-so-rare football based conversations.

Melo?!

That name rings a bell ...

Can't be the one I'm thinking of though, as he'd never create such a preposterous article and post it for public comment.

I am obviously not an Arsenal fan but can kind of see your point. I would never want this as plan A the football from Liverpool this year has been better than i have seen in a long time BUT we are not scoring enough goals...

a Plan B using Andy Carroll's aerial ability is something that I would like to see when goals are needed in the 2nd half of a game...

alas it is not to be... However i can see how this would link weel to Arsenal's game.

Long ball as an occasion is good, but having it as your primary game, its a no no. It's Outdated for that. May work for west ham and stoke, but would hate Arsenal to ever play like that.

But as a back up plan, don't see problem with it.

So you are saying we switch to hoofbalk because we were kept out in the weekend by Norwich.

Maybe not a long ball game then but I do think we could implement Giroud's abilities a lot better than we are currently. He looked bored against Norwich due to the lack of service.

Even if we dismiss the long ball, is it so much to ask for us to work on our crossing? Jenkinson has improved in this respect from last season, as has Gibbs, but the crosses tend to be low and into the feet of Gervinho to spoon into the stands.

Why is Podolski not making crosses?
Or Cazorla when he is pushed wide like he was on Saturday?
Or Arteta floating in a cross early?

Giroud's head is a way of finding goals, I just don't know why his head isn't being put to better use.

I prefer the old one.

Long ball football is ugly. I'd rather lose 10-0 playing passing football than win 1-0 playing long ball football.

The English language is not sufficiently sophisticated enough to provide me with the words I need to accurately convey how little I care.

Thing is, we were never that direct even when we were more of a counter-attacking team.

Back then starting a game with a few hoofs upfield might have actually served us well.

It'll never happen now though, so I'm with Melo.

WORK ON YOUR FECKIN CROSSING LADS!

I think we're on to something with the crossing. Once again, 606 saves Arsenal.

"..so I'm with Melo"

Let me clarify this point.

For some reason I thought this article was by Moist.

The 'improved crossing' comment was good though.

There's a bit of a difference between crossing the ball well which would presumably bring Giroud into the game and maybe give him a chance to score, and resorting to hoofball tactics. Surely there's a happy medium.

Also, if Giroud was better suited to long ball football I really think we wouldn't have signed him in the first place.

To play long ball football doesn't mean we have to play like Stoke. We can still keep hold of the ball and maintain our high standards when it comes to moving the ball around but our attacking focus would be getting a long pass onto Girouds head.

And it was just an idea.
