I couldn't wait for him to retire, tbh. I like him on the radio, but he held us back. Footballers aren't that daft, managers and players must have relished playing us with Savage in the team. I thought two young midfielders would more than compensate energy and be more effective.
GT Karl, I was here repping... This forest fan was calling us Rams out and saying we iz not about when we lose innit. I had to pipe up...
Do you think your owners are reluctant to invest in the club, especially after the PJ era, because they simply don't trust Clough with their money? He has seemingly had to create his own transfer budget, season after season, by selling on your best players.
Your club certainly has the capital to avoid this, but for whatever reason choose not to.
Personally, I think Clough has done a great job by keeping you at least slightly competitive in the league. However the record is broken, the song is stuck on repeat, another season of midtable mediocrity.
For you to be challenging for promotion, like you should be, the owners need to start injecting cash. If only so you can keep your players and still buy on the transfer market. If they can't trust Clough with that task, then maybe it's time for a new manager they can trust.

Blackpool & Swansea didn't have our debts, Norwich did have similar debts but also were relegated to L1. It also helps that the expectations at Blackpool (remember both Forest & Cardiff were favourites to beat them in the play-offs) & Swansea were more realistic & that Swansea had been improving each season despite losing managers & players. Their chairman, Huw Jenkins, is an astute man.

Interesting post I don't think it is that GSE distrust Clough, more than they, as a sports management co, don't possess the wherewithal and their investors provide capital to keep the club solvent but not to invest in the team.
I don't think a change of manager will change things, the same financial constraints will remain in place. I think the onus is on the board to give the manager a bit more financial clout.
dont speak to soon boys its a long season.
Love it when Derby have problems
Nigel will not get his team playing like Swansea did,he also doe's not have the man management skills to get a team playing like Ollie did.
Derby are more likely to become the new Cov,he cannot handle seasoned ex prem or championship level pro's. They won't put up with any of his nonsense.
Nigel will just happily tick along until you realise that you wasted several years by employing him.
They could be above us by xmas lads. Be careful
Anyway. They will be on soon telling us about our 4 hoofball goals we scored. Absolutely disgusting. We really do need to stop it. Look at the way Cohen hoofed it into the net! SOD needs to take control.
Derby on the other hand didn't with their goals on Saturday. They can take a lot of positives from the game. Buxton can now be rested. Peterborough missed a penalty (That is the sign of a bottom 3 club). Fishy just had one of his off days and Let Loose Legzdins just wants to ensure keeping his place in the side ahead of Flapper Fielding. He nearly stopped their 2nd. All in all not much ground lost and we did get a lucky win away at Barnsley afterall
Backo, my point was that Derby are coping very well with playing us, not so much playing the rest. We're doing better against the rest but have been woeful in the derbies. Now as nice as winning the Brian Clough trophy is I know which way I'd rather have it. I'd gladly sacrifice 6 points v you lot for a place in the play-offs and as much as you go on about the BC trophy I'm sure you feel the same.
Sorry, Cousin Omar, don't agree with you. I would say, yes, I expected more in terms of style from NC. I disagree your point about us wasting seasons employing him. Seasoned Forest observers like Garry Birtles often give NC a bit more praise, considering the circumstances under which he has had to operate.
If anyone put us back, it was the inept signings made by Billy in the PL & then by Jewell.
But surely Bob.
Was Maguire worth the money? 400K wasted. It may not sound a lot but with wages on top etc
Davies? another.
Admittedly some signings have been "ok" but Sammon isn't really the answer. Can you honestly see him bagging 15 goals this year? It's a lot of money to fork out.
The trouble I see with Clough is that he would think twice about bringing a seasoned professional in from the Prem and tends to look at misfits or go down to lower league levels and bring in players who see Derby as a bigger club
If anyone put us back, it was the inept signings made by Billy in the PL & then by Jewell.
----------------------------------------------
And what about the money that Billy made Derby for getting you in the PL? It didn't all go on Claude Davies!
Does he still work for Billy Smart?
Webbo
I take your point about Sammon, I think he was bought to add a physical presence to a lightweight front line - but our fans are frustrated because they wanted a regular goal-scorer.
Clough's made mistakes with transfers, but not as costly as past managers in terms of impact. I also think he has to take the consequences of his actions when a signing fails, not leave it for someone else.
I'm not really sure, there's a lot of assumptions in your comment but you may be right. From the outside, our squad seems to be more about team-work ahead of individuals, but then I suppose if you're a manager, it's difficult to place your faith in Kris Commons, who can turn up some games and then disappear in others, especially when you need results to keep your job.
I think Clough would have loved to bring in some of the names you have added, but seasoned professionals/quality cost money. Is it because he can't handle egos? Hmm, I don't know, he handled Robbie Savage pretty well. Commons as well.
It probably boils down to money. I mean, look at our front line: Tyson (free, OK wages may play a part), Robinson (£200k), Ward (£300k) & then Sammon. The fees just about cover what you paid for Cox.
TEG
No, £30m went on paying our historic debt. Davies wanted all £60m to spend. Your next observation?
I can't be bothered to trawl through them but if you or somebody cares to do it you suggest that we were "cheating" under ND and are still "cheating" now.
Capn Bob.
We had a regular goal scorer in Steve Davies. He's just scored 6 goals in 6 games for Bristol City.
Is anybody the wiser about why he had to leave? The move seems to have done him good. Imagine him and Sammon together.
Ramdini
It's all hypotheticals, Davies wanted to leave, I think most fans were surprised, NC even offered him a 3 year deal. The situation was out of the manager's hands.
It hasn't helped that Jamie Ward has been out for a month, maybe that was a partnership Clough had in mind up front.

It's downhill from now on. You normally start off seasons brilliantly, and dip. Now is your dip, and the worrying thing is you didn't start off brilliantly, meaning it's less of a fall to relegation trouble.
Your team can only cover up the cracks of Sammon for so long.
Capn Bob. Here Here on the Ballacks to NFFCSpotty.
In raising the Steve Davies topic I was in no way criticising NC. I know there was apparently nothing we could do to keep him. But I sure would have liked to keep him.
First time ive been on all week and all I see is Forest win 4-1 but still only want to talk about Derby!
Tommo - more a case of taking the pi$$ out of derby.
£ posts all by Forest fans, if I could be bothered to look I would hazard a guess that over 75% of you comments in the last month have been on the Derby board or on Derby threads. Is this because you only see the results on SSN so cant really comment on the performance with your fellow fans?
