Who cares if someone wears a plastic flower on their shirt or not? It means NOTHING.

feel about his decision not to wear a poppy on his shirt yesterday?

If he likes in Ireland so much then he should fook off back there.

Lets be fair to the lad, the last thing he should be concerning himself with on a Saturday afternoon is what is on his fitba top! Another couple of weeks and he along with 10 others and his manager might be wondering what to wear in the stand!

If you support your homeland so much away and ply your trade in what is a bankrupt backwater!

Have you noticed the way principles get thrown out the window when there's money to be made. If he's so patriotic he should ply his trade in his own country. I left a similar message on the RS board, but for reason they removed it.

The moment when someone feels obliged to wear something for the fear of looking out of place or disrespectful is the moment we forget what we actually fought for imo.

In that case we should accept racism

What has it got to do with patriotism or money for that matter?

Forcing people to wear something they don't want to wear is wrong in any country, especially in those which claim to be democracies.

By the way he's also a citizen of the EU, so he's allowed freedom of movement anyway.

It represents that he does not agree with British occupation in Northern Ireland and feels Ireland should be a united country.
====================================
Well i don't agree with his occupation in this country, so can he please 4 cough.

I think that it's something to do with British soldiers murdering a number of innocent people in his home town.

again, such an argument means we should accept racists, there are certain events, situations and soceital needs that go beyond a univeral argument for democracy in everything we do.........

No, but you should accept people may not want to wear a symbol of support for people of other races.
Do you think everyone should wear those wristbands that were popular a few years back in support for various organisations? And by not wearing them am I against research into finding a cure for breast cancer, for bullying and so on.

By not growing a mustache this month am I being disrespectful to those with prostate cancer?

Was McClean silent during the minutes silence or was he making a lot of noise? This is where he showed respect, he could have refused to be on the pitch during this moment.

He has his beliefs, would you where a symbol of rememberance of the lost german soldiers if you worked in Germany?

Fair point. He is a grown man though, and this is a free country. He can do as he pleases, whether people like it or not.

Jesus you are missing the point.....

We are not talking about every day people walking around the street, this is a young man playing in a high profile sport, televised around the world and he is representing his football club not himself. He can by all means publish his views on Twitter, but he is not bigger then the club he plays for, nor an event that resonates with the country he chooses to live and work in.

He is entitled to his views but there is a time and a place............this was not it.

Just to remind you that many nationalities were killed in the two world wars, including Irish people in events that occurred before the occupation of NI. Where is the relevance?

Explain to me how does the BNP exist? Surely they would all be locked up by now?

I can understand him having republican views, our history in Ireland is shameful, but Remberance Day has absolutely nothing to do with it and as i said if his views are that strong then living and working in england makes him a massive hypocrite.

Those who are aware of the situation will understand why he chose to do what he did. If Sunderland don't agree with it, they can punish him in any way they see fit.
