No doubt about it, you have a strong squad. Is your defensive depth strong though? And can Mirallas play a lone striker should Jelavic be injured? Fellaini would probably end up up top anyway do you have the midfield cover for that?

Liverpool are my favs for that 4th spot. With Brendan forging a well defined path of quality signing how could we compete?

With 7-8strikers signing in January everyone else should just chuck it in. Even with injuries to key players....agger, suarez and gerrard they have proven youth to fill the void.

The first half of this article is the most insightful thing you've ever written on here phil.

I stopped reading after I came to the conclusion that you actually think you will finish in the top four. Deluded.

posted on 13/11/12

So you never read further on when I said

'I am not saying we will make the top 4 but I am saying we must be looked on as serious contenders'.

No wonder most of your comments make no sense,as you never read fully what people type.

Everton serious contenders for forth

Come on Phil, with your mystic powers, you should see that's simple crazy talk. Back to your padded cell for you, until you come back into reality.

Explain to us all why its crazy talk when we are still the third highest point scorers in 2012 in the premiership. We have collected more points than any other teams apart from the manchester clubs. We have collected 25 more points than Liverpool since 01 jan 2012 hence why I did not even mention Liverpool as contenders.

These are cold hard facts TOOR the sort of facts that if it favoured Liverpool you would be spouting off your normal rubbish

Yes, they are facts. You don't need to go into it all, a simple look at the league table suggests you have won the points to get you to fourth. However the facts for how the table will look at the end of the 2012/2013 season aren't yet available so in order to 'predict' that, you have to use opinion.

I think most would be of the opinion that Everton have done very well but will fade away towards the end as the don't have the squad to compete with the best when it comes to injuries, suspension, tiredness, rotation etc. Even when it comes to first eleven, Everton are not forth best, so this even further would suggest that there will be no fourth place finish for Everton. Simply Everton have went on a good starting run, like many other clubs before them, including Hull City, Ipswich and Blackpool.

We've got a chance, I think we have a better chance than Liverpool and Newcastle of being up there. I really do not rate Villas Boas so I'd be disappointed if we finished below Spurs but then they have some class players. Arsenal will be hit and miss all season I think although Wilshere will make a massive difference to their midfield. Top 6 I'd be very happy with though. Key will be keeping everyone fit, especially Fellaini, Baines and Jelavic. There will no doubt be loads of talk of Fellaini going in January but I really don't believe we'll sell then, especially if we are in a similar position.

Keep coming on here mouthing off you red fans, I'm saving your comments for the end of the season. Looking forward to hearing your excuses. I'm also looking forward to your next transfer window, Ricky Lambert and Gary Hooper as your targets...how the mighty fall.

posted on 13/11/12

I don't think any excuses are going to be needed, Everton simply are not gonna finish fourth.

Also I doubt we'd go for Scottish League and Championship players, we have money, we're not Everton.

There is not one thing you have put there that is a fact mystic TOOR.You are predicting that we will fade away when over the last 4 seasons we have been stronger after the New Year than many of our rivals despite picking up injuries FACT.

Liverpool's 2012 record of 30 points from 30 games is an undeniable FACT.In Premier league history several teams have been relegated despite collected a point a game FACT.

Everton are the third best form team over the last 30 premiership games and are the 4th best form team this season FACT.Liverpool are currently the 13th best form team this season and are 5th out of 17th teams since the 1st January FACT.

Can you give me the lottery numbers for Wednesday Mystic TOOR as you are in fine form today.Just pick 43 numbers between 1-49 and I'll have the remaining 6 for a line

Phil, did you read what I spent time typing? It would seem not. You cannot use facts to say what the league table is, when it hasn't yet ended. You can only use opinion, which is what I've done.

Using the past only shows how well you've done up until a point, it doesn't tell you how well you will do.

Again, without going into all that you've went into, which isn't needed, a simple look at the league table says how well teams have done up until now but what it doesn't do, is tell you how well they will do until the end of the season, the part in which many believe Everton will fade away due to having an inferior squad to many of the other teams. In fact Everton aren't even a realistic challenger as the squad is too weak. Although they do have an outside chance if luck goes their way, like goals being given as offside, injuries not happening, players not getting tired and suspensions due to yellow cards accumulated for example, for diving(Neville) reds for stamping(Fellaini) etc.

TOOR, how about the goals that should have been given to us over a number of games this season? We should have 6 more points than we currently do, had that counted, but they didn't. Still bitter about the Derby?

In recent seasons, it's been an LFC trait to fade towards that end of the season, so god help you if that trend continues.

Our squad quality is a matter of opinion and we already have had injuries that have not stopped our team being beaten once in the last 21 league games. We will play at least 10-14 games fewer than Newcastle,Spurs and Arsenal over the season,so player tiredness will not be an overriding issue.Injury wise the rule of thumb is the more minutes on the pitch a player plays the more likely is that player could get injured.Same goes with being booked and sent off.So we are in fact in a better position than Spurs Newcastle and Arsenal.

Look at your squad TOOR if Suarez misses a few games you are in serious trouble. When you had Borini playing up front at the start of the season ,withy Suarez playing wide you picked up 2 points in the first 5 games.Brendan the genius had to have an injury to Borini to actually change your formation and improve results. It's now 5 at the back Suarez up front, play tippy tappy for 80mins to try and keep you in the game then play hoofball for the last 10 mins. That's what you have been playing this season

Who cares about a table from Jan 1st to now. It means nothing. A season is from August to May, not from January. Up to January last season were 10 points ahead of you and in 6th. That didn't mean anything either because we eventually finshed 8th. Prizes and European positions are handed out in May, not November 13th. You're in 4th now but you've had a relatively easy start compared to other teams.

Along with Man CIty you've had the easiest start to the season out of the teams that finished top 8 last season.

Utd have already played Chelsea, Everton, Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle and Llverpool (6 out of 7)

Liverpool have already played Utd, City, Chelsea, Everton, Arsenal, Newcastle (6 out of 7)

Newcastle have played Utd, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs, Liverpool (5 out of 7)

Chelsea have playedUtd, Spurs, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool (5 out of 7)

Arsenal have played Utd, City, Chelsea and Liverpool (4 out of 7)

Spurs have played Utd, City, Chelsea and Newcastle (4 out of 7)

City have played Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal (3 out of 7)

Everton have played Utd, Newcastle and Liverpool (3 ou fot 7).

Easies start to the season of any of those 8 teams. So the table means nothing right now. The table from January 1st means even less.

The old saying the league can't be won with the first 10 games of the season but it can be lost rings true.

Of course it matters where you are in the league after 11 games or on January 1st after 18 games. If you bobbing along in 13th place with 12 teams better off points wise than you then you are in a worse position than if you were in 4th with 16 teams on fewer points than you.

Would you sooner be 4th with the points in the bag or 13th at this stage in the season?

That's not true at all, Liverpool have always done well at the end of the season, recently, with the exception of last season, of course.

Surely by us gaining 20 points from the past 11 league games has a direct influence on where we finish in the league this season or am I wrong.
