Fair play to him. No suprise he is a top pundit.

.......................

I am convinced Gary wants to come out and say that Scholes and Giggsy should have retired, or stayed retired in Scholes case.

I think his frienship with the pair of them, and his ambassador role with the club is stopping him from doing that.

But as a pundit, I feel he really should.

Nev did the right thing by the club, and for that you have to respect the man.

personally i blame giggs and fergie as much as each other.

giggs should have the gumption to say "im holding players and the team back" like nev did, but he wont.

Fergie also needs to see this.

i even read the other day that he is not ruling out offering them another 1 year extension.

i mean come on ffs, thats crazy.

by all means, keep them at the club in a non playing capacity if they want, but thats it.

Neville isn't alone. ALL pundits on UK TV think Giggsy is still fantastic. Sky, ITV, MOTD, even on MUTV the Giggs question is never discussed on the phones, apart the odd caller who gets through the net and is put in his place for daring to have a go at the great man, by any of the ex players (Macari, Ritchie, Thomas, May, Fortune, McIlroy, Albiston....etc.) they just was lyrical about him and Scholes generally.

It is getting a bit crazy isnt it? There is a United fan in my office who was going on about how good Giggs still is and how it is amazing for a player of his age. I just laughed at him and said that he has been awful this season.

Didn't like it yesterday morning when I asked how he rated Giggs' performance against Norwich.

I think these people get blinded by the fact that he can still play the odd blinding pass - like the one for Hernandez in the CL the other week. They focus on the one or two good things that he does and forget all the bad things.

hernandez is another issue for me though.

whenever he starts it often feels like we are a man down, doesnt seem to influence the game at all, saturday being a prime example.

I just think SAF has got to the age now where he just wants to stick with the tried and tested and take fewer risks. Thus why he keeps faith in the old guard because he thinks they will not let him down...very sentimental in that sense. Which is why he needs a very good assistant that would help with tactics and picking teams. Not quite sure what input if any Phelan has.

i disagree, while phelan isnt as tactical as CQ was, the buck stops with Fergie, he is the manager, and he is the one who continues to play giggs and scholes.

SAF has messed this one up. He should have bought in adequate replacements in but hasnt. If he had the players to replace Scholes and Giggs he wouldnt rely on them as much. He has tried to replace Giggs with players like Richardson, Tosic, Nani, Young, the list goes on.

Then every season we are linked to the "next Scholes".

The worrying thing is that SAF still thinks Scholes and Giggs still have it in them.

My solution is trust Nani, give him regular games or buy a left footed winger.

To replace Scholes we must spend big, get someone like Sneidjer, De Rossi or Schweinstiger in.

Lets not gamble on the "next Scholes" by wasting another 5 years on our current crop, we need someone ready made now.

But if he had an assistant who can see the flaws and point them out rather then being a yes man, maybe SAF would think twice before playing Giggs and Scholes more often then not.

Phelan's head looks like an M&M.

Therefore he's gash.

Fergie doesn't give me the impression that he is one of those who would listen to anyone having a different view. He doesn't even like journos asking difficult question (and we regularly ban them) let alone allowing someone who is working under him. Phelan's job is to do some of the mundane parts of Fergie's job which he himself doesn't have the time for (like talking to BBC when he wasn't talking to them himself). Otherwise I doubt Phelan gets any sort of respect from the players that an assistant manager should get.

---------------------

i understand what your saying, but it shouldnt take anyone to point out the flaws of playing giggs in the middle or giggs and scholes in the same team, that is something a manager as experienced as fergie should be able to do himself.

What you going on about? Giggs as a left winger has been replaced - hence why he doesn't play there any more.

It is in CM where he plays now and we have plenty of players there that should be ahead of him. Against Norwich we had Ando, Clevs and Fletcher that should all have made the team ahead of him. I'd also rather see Powell start in CM than Giggs.

Why not he's amazing. Very similar in style of play and can put in a good tackle.

james rodriguez and claudio marchisio would be the perfect signings in the summer IMO, whether we can get marchisio or not is another question however

I do remember Queiroz being able to select teams for the Champions league. Not sure if that was true though but he was used to stand on the touch line and give instructions.

I still think Nani on the left or Kagawa on the inside left. If we can get a top CM that would sort all our problems I feel.

We should spend mega big on a CM.

nani on the right, he's better than valencia and sign rodriguez for the left side, we need a left footed winger for balance

posted on 20/11/12

We should have signed a new midfielder back when Ronaldo left. Instead every season SAF seems to focus on wingers and strikers which is fair enough but centre midfield is still a problem.

He should have figured it out when he bought back Scholes from retirement. Why would he do that otherwise.

Who RVP? I think he was an important signing and 1 of the reasons we may get away with conceding so many as he will score so many.

Valencia is very unlikely to be swapped for Nani you know how SAF is.

In an ideal world Nani on the right and a left footed winger on the left with a top quality CM would give us perfect harmony and balance.

I dont think SAF will sign a CM I really dont. What will happen is eventually everyone will get annoyed and he will end up retiring thinking how ungrateful us fans are.

To be fair we have complained since Ronaldo left, over 3 seasons we have asked for a CM and some quality players yet we have endured the likes of Owen, Valencia, Young, Diouf, Bebe, etc thinking it will fill the void of Ronaldo.

It hasn't and the manager is solely to blame for that.

We don't need to sign a CM. We need to stop playing our oldies and let the young lads have a good crack at nailing down a spot.

I mean, Anderson could have a brilliant game tonight, then he'll be benched for the next 3 games. Something (IMO) is going on that we don't know here.

SAF has told us plenty of times how good Cleverley is, so why not let him have a run of games? Instead of letting Giggs play in the centre?
