Agreed. I wasn't too bummed when we missed out on Hazard because I thought we were pretty well stocked in that area anyway. Boy how we could do with someone like him now.

Some people on here think the wingers can't be held accountable and don't work independently from the CM's.

They do and have been awful all season.

Hazard would have been great. Lucas Moura was looked at too so Sir Alex obviously feels that maybe this area does need improvement

just like u i honestly believed we had 3 of the best wingers in the epl. that opinion has changed big time.

in europe i feel wing play is least effective, in the epl this season a lot of teams are begining to adopt the european approach with varying level of success,

is it time we do so aswell.

I agree, our wingers have been very poor this season. I still think we have the best wingers in the league but they need to get back to form if we are to do well this season

We are crying out for wide wingers to get behind the fullback. Got to stop this nonsense of using wing forwards....Welbeck as a wide option up front either side is clueless in that role.

Fergie might have given a clue to why Valencia hasn't been up to scratch recently by admitting that he has been carrying a hip injury that restricts his movement.

lets hope we can get Toni and Nani fit and playing again.

I never thought we had the "best" wingers. Valencia is good and Nani is great on his day but very inconsistent. But Ashley Young was never any good and I've never rated him.

thats absolute nonsense though... our wingers were poor but Giggs and Carrick were shocking too.

Valencia et al are badly out of form but part of the reason it is leaving us so toothless is that when we start with our oldies it gives us a static midfield which offers nothing in attacking areas or in supporting the forwards... all they do is knock the ball out wide.

This in turn makes us desperately predictable and easier to defend against. All Norwich had to do was cut out crosses and double up on wingers and we were stuffed.

With a less static midfield it not only gives us more variety going forward but also creates more room for our wide players.

they are both problem areas atm... and for me one problem is making the other worse

Valencia was doubled up evrrytime he had the ball so he coulsnt do much anyway. If Rafael wasn't near Valencia he had no support as giggs and Carrick were playing statues on the half way line.

evrrytime giggs and Carrick received a ball they lumped it 40 yards up the pitch only for the opposition to get the ball, albeit a one or two lucky balls that got through but rvp couldn't put it away.

I don't blame it on Carrick by the way, its purely giggs fault because Carrick has to change his game when playing next To giggs, there's just zero movement drive or power when those two are together all they can do is lump the ball across the pitch and do you know how frustrating it is for a forward player to just stand around upfront doing nothing because the midfield are hopeless? Extremely frustrating! That's one of the reasons rooneys started to drop deep a few years ago

I think the problem we have with out wingers is there inability to beat a man.

Valencia is strong and powerful but extremely one footed. Although his link up with rafa is very good!

Young has been injured a lot of the season but hasnt really come back storming. I do like young on the left but the masses are right he's not playing too well at the moment.

Nani on the other hand has skill and pace in his locker! But nani's main flaw is his decision making, more often than not hell get in the right positions but his final ball is below standard, or the thing that annoys me most, slowing the play down to beat a man, and then going back to beat him again!

I am not counting giggs as a winger as he def can't play there anymore!

The main problem we have is the way teams set up against us is to defend deep and counter through the middle! As that's were we're weakest!

If our wingers can't make use of the ball ultimately we will loose it and be put under pressure! If fergie is going to fix anything first it has to be the midfield, if we're solid in the middle our wingers will Benifit more!!!

wingers have had poor form and we have no choice but to stick with them until their form improves
but our cm has been terrible with carrick giggs and scholes too static to provide passing option

When I argued we need a winger at the start of the season, I was hounded with abuse.....!!!
