Uefa is still planning for a June restart across its leagues but says in "special cases" some could be cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

All 55 European national FAs met by video conference on Tuesday when ways to finish the season were outlined.

Each involved a June start, with the Champions League final on 29 August.

Earlier this month, Uefa warned leagues that ending competitions early could result in them forfeiting Champions League and Europa League places.

However, the uncertainty over when football can restart has made detailed planning impossible and for the first time, Uefa has accepted completing the season in some countries may not be possible.

Former Welsh champions Rhyl FC are set to close down after 141 years of existence.

The north Wales side confirmed they had begun a winding-up process, with directors citing the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis.

"This is a very emotional day for everyone connected with the club," said chairman Paul Higginson. "We are all fans and feel it deeply."

The four-time Welsh Cup winners play in the second-tier Cymru North.

Rhyl had warned recently they could not meet financial obligations and required significant external investment to continue.

After a self-imposed deadline passed with "no viable approach", a club statement confirmed that they had initiated the winding-up of the company.

National League clubs have voted to end the 2019-20 season at its current point, with promotion and relegation outcomes "under careful consideration".

The league's board had urged clubs in its three divisions to vote in favour of ending the regular season without further games because of coronavirus.

The league said there was a "clear majority of clubs in favour" from the almost 90% of responses returned.

Football in the fifth and sixth tiers was suspended on 16 March.

Clubs in the National League, National League North and National League South divisions that have not yet voted still have an opportunity to do so, the league's board said, but it "would not change the outcome".

Michael O'Neill has permanently left his role as Northern Ireland manager after eight years in charge.

O'Neill was set to take charge of NI's postponed Euros qualifier with Bosnia-Herzegovina in March.

However due to Uefa's proposal to reschedule the game in the autumn, the 50-year-old will now solely focus on his job as Stoke City manager.

"I feel it is only fair that now is the right time for me to step aside," said O'Neill.

O'Neill was appointed Northern Ireland manager in December 2011 and guided his country to the Euro 2016 finals in France.

C nut Sweynsson (died 12 November 1035), known as C nut the Great or Canute, was king of Denmark, England and Norway; together often referred to as the North Sea Empire. Yet after the deaths of his heirs within a decade of his own, and the Norman conquest of England in 1066, this legacy was lost. He is popularly invoked in the context of the legend of King Canute and the tide, which often misrepresents him as a deluded monarch believing he has supernatural powers, contrary to the original legend which portrays a wise king who rebuked his courtiers for their fawning behaviour.
