Barcelona moved eight points clear at the top of La Liga as a clinical second-half performance helped them to a routine victory against Sevilla.

After an uneventful first half the hosts took the lead through Jordi Alba's 58th-minute side-footed finish.

Gavi tapped home Raphinha's cross to double the lead after 71 minutes and the Brazil winger rounded off the scoring by poking in Alba's cross.

Defeat leaves Sevilla 16th, just two points clear of the relegation zone.

Earlier on Saturday, title rivals Real Madrid missed out on the chance to cut Barcelona's lead at least temporarily to two points, losing 1-0 to Mallorca.

The 28-year-old is due to appear in court next week and Exeter City said he would not play until proceedings have concluded.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to Queens Street in Exeter on Thursday 2 February after reports a woman had been assaulted.

"As this is a legal matter, we are unable to make any comment until legal proceedings have been concluded. He will not be selected to play during this period."

At least 3,000 people are confirmed to have died after two catastrophic earthquakes devastated parts of Turkey and Syria. Thousands more fatalities are feared in the coming days after 7.8 and 7.5 magnitude tremors in southeastern Turkey caused buildings to collapse on people as they slept in their beds in the early hours of the morning. Witnesses describe being 'shaken like a cradle' as the first severe quake struck, the fallout of which has left many people homeless as winter snowstorms and freezing temperatures hit the region. Victims trapped in collapsed buildings have been pleading for help as rescuers desperately try to free them - with some people even broadcasting on Facebook Live while trapped to try and get aid. Heartbreaking photos and videos have shown emergency services pulling the bodies of children from the rubble in multiple cities, as well as miraculous rescues with people somehow being carried out alive after the catastrophe.

A search expert looking for Nicola Bulley says he has not seen such an unusual case in 20 years of his work.

Peter Faulding, head of a team of underwater experts searching the River Wyre, said another stretch near where she went missing would be scoured.

Ms Bulley, 45, was last seen walking her dog by the river in St Michael's on Wyre in Lancashire 11 days ago.

Her partner Paul Ansell issued a fresh appeal on Monday, saying her daughters missed her desperately.

Mr Faulding told BBC Breakfast: "It is so unusual.

"Normally when we deal with a drowning victim, they are where they go down.

"I would expect to find Nicola in the water right in front of the bench where she went down. She would not have moved, maybe two or three feet.

"This is so strange.

"In my 20-odd years of doing this, I have worked on hundreds of cases, I have never seen anything so unusual."

Footballer Christian Atsu has been pulled from the rubble of a building "with injuries" after the earthquakes in Turkey, his club's vice-president Mustafa Özat has told Turkish radio.

Atsu, who plays for Hatayspor, was trapped after the earthquakes that have killed at least 4,800 people.

The ex-Ghana forward, 31, played 107 games for Newcastle and has had spells with Chelsea, Everton and Bournemouth.

Hatayspor sporting director Taner Savut is still in the collapsed building.

Hatay was one of the areas closest to the epicentre of the earthquake, and has suffered extensive damage.

"Christian Atsu was removed from the wreckage with injuries," Özat told Radyo Gol.

"Unfortunately, our sporting director Taner Savut is still under the rubble.

"Hatay was deeply affected. We are coming towards the end of the most dangerous hours."

Wales midfielder Joe Allen has retired from international football at the age of 32.

Allen won 74 caps, scoring twice, and will go down as one of the nation's all-time great midfield players.

The Swansea City player helped Wales qualify for three major tournaments, with the World Cup in Qatar proving to be his international farewell.

Allen's retirement means Wales have lost another star player after Gareth Bale hung up his boots last month.

"Playing for Wales has been a great passion and love in my life," Allen said in a statement released by the Football Association of Wales.

"I have been extremely fortunate. I've shared this journey with incredible people - my family, team-mates, staff and fans have made it special and I'm hugely grateful to you all.

"Our nation's support is inspiring and it has given me immense pride to wear the shirt… so many unforgettable experiences.

"Unfortunately, time and injuries take their toll and so it's time for me to make way for our next generation. The future of Welsh football is bright."

While Allen was not as influential as the talismanic Bale, he has been a central figure for Wales during the most successful period in the history of the men's national team.

First capped in 2009, he helped end his nation's 58-year wait for a major championship appearance as they qualified for Euro 2016, and was then named in the team of the tournament as Chris Coleman's side produced an extraordinary run to the semi-finals.

And the former Liverpool and Stoke City player also played a key role as Wales qualified for Euro 2020, where they made it to the second round.

He then helped Wales reach the World Cup for the first time since 1958, only for his involvement in the tournament to be in doubt throughout the build-up because of a hamstring injury.

Wales manager Robert Page and his club boss, Russell Martin, both praised Allen for the desire and commitment he showed to get himself fit in time for the competition, where he was unavailable for the opening draw against the United States but returned after more than two months out as a substitute in the defeat by Iran.

Christian Atsu's agent says the footballer's whereabouts are unknown, a day after it was reported he was pulled from the rubble of a building "with injuries" after the Turkey earthquakes.

More than 11,000 people in southern Turkey and northern Syria are now known to have been killed.

Ghana forward Atsu plays for Hatayspor and the club's vice-president Mustafa Özat had said the player was rescued.

"We are doing everything we can to locate Christian," said Nana Sechere.

"As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family."

In a social media post, the agent added: "Following yesterday's update from the club that Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian's whereabouts."

Hatayspor manager Volkan Demirel told Turkish sport website Spor Arena

there was "no news yet" on either Atsu or sporting director Taner Savut, who was reported missing on Monday along with the player.

Savut's location and condition is currently unknown.

"If they were in hospital, don't you think I would share this? Please don't be sure that he survived. This should not be written as he survived," he said.

Ghana's Ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, told radio station Joy FM there was "confusion" as to where Atsu had been sent.

"Yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here informed me that they wanted to confirm if Christian Atsu had been found and rescued, and sent to a medical centre," she said.

"However, in all the confusion - which is understandable under the circumstances [as you are rescued you are put in an ambulance and sent to the hospital] - they are not sure yet which particular hospital or health facility he has been sent to.

"This morning again, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured me they are working feverishly to find out which facility he was sent to and will get back to me as soon as possible because I have been on them that I need to go and see him."

Former Everton, Newcastle and Rangers striker Duncan Ferguson says refusing to play international football after a fall out with the Scottish FA (SFA) was the "biggest regret in my career".

Ferguson, from Stirling, scored 124 goals in 423 club appearances and picked up seven international caps. However, he quit the national side from 1997 onwards, missing out on the 1998 World Cup in France.

The forward's decision to make himself unavailable was in protest at the SFA's decision to ban him for 12 matches following a headbutt on Raith Rovers defender Jock McStay - an incident which led to him serving 44 days in prison.

Speaking to Tony Bellew in the latest episode of the Evertonian boxer's BBC Sounds podcast, the newly appointed Forest Green Rovers manager blamed his "pig-headedness" for his exile.

"When I came out of prison, the SFA asked me to serve another 12-game ban," Ferguson said.

"I had to then go to the courts, to fight my case and say 'look, this is like double jeopardy, or whatever it's called'...

"I actually won my case... but the SFA wanted me to serve [that] ban, so I got the hump.

"It's the biggest regret in my career, not playing for my country."
