As such, it is unlikely that the specific circumstances leading to the sinking of the Titanic will recur. But the ocean remains an unpredictable place, fraught with hazards.

Throughout the loading of lifeboats, the atmosphere on deck remained almost eerily calm, if survivor accounts are to be believed. “We stood there quietly looking on at the work of the crew as they manned the lifeboats, and no one ventured to interfere with them,” second-class passenger Lawrence Beesley recalled.

A unique 'diamond within a diamond' has been unearthed, according to a company in India's Surat - one of the rarest in history when it comes to such stones.

V D Global named the 0.329-carat piece 'Beating Heart' and said it consists of a piece of diamond with a smaller freely-moving piece trapped inside, according to the Times of India.

The stone was originally found in the rough in October last year by the diamond manufacturer that operates from Surat and Mumbai, according to the Independent.

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) set up by the Indian government said the 'Beating Heart' joins a little group of similar natural diamonds such as the Matryoshka diamond from Siberia, which was first recorded in 2019.

The authenticity of the stone was confirmed via further analysis, using optical and electron microscopes.

Callum Davidson has "mutually" left his post as St Johnstone manager with the Scottish Premiership club slipping towards a relegation fight.

The McDiarmid Park side have won just twice in 2023 and sit four points off a play-off place.

Former Saints player Davidson became a club icon after winning the Scottish Cup and League Cup in 2020-21.

But, after escaping the drop in the play-offs last season, his side have struggled once more this campaign.

"We must always put our football club first," said chairman Steve Brown in a statement that confirmed assistant manager Steven MacLean will take temporary charge.

"Callum has been a brilliant manager for St Johnstone and led us to that cup double in 2021 and then European football.

"But we feel results haven't been good enough in recent weeks and it's best for the football club to make a change at this stage.

"He is a St Johnstone legend and always will be."

The maker of Angry Birds video games has agreed to be bought by the Japanese gaming giant behind the Sonic the Hedgehog character.

Japan's Sega Sammy Holdings is paying €706m (£625m) for Finland-based Rovio Entertainment.

Rovio has said Angry Birds was the first mobile game to be downloaded one billion times, and the brand has also produced two Angry Birds movies.

Sega is seeking to tap into Rovio's expertise in mobile gaming.

Last year, Rovio - which has about 550 employees across its eight game studios around the world - said downloads across its stable of games had reached five billion.

Announcing the deal, Sega said its decision to buy Rovio had been driven by the need to "strengthen its position" in the global gaming market.

It said this market is projected to grow to $263.3bn by 2026, with the percentage of mobile gaming expected to increase to 56%.

Sega said it would use Rovio's "distinctive know-how in live service mobile game operation" to help bring its own current and new titles to the global mobile gaming market.

It highlighted Rovio's mobile gaming platform, Beacon, which it said had "20 years of high-level expertise in live service-mobile game operation" in the US and Europe.
