*people use his assists/goals stats to prove that he is a 'crap/rubbish/overrated'
Assisting the assistor is what Modric does from a deep position.
"It's no coincidence that now Modric has left Spurs are struggling to retain possession in the latter stages of matches when the going gets tough."
Not really.
Spurs had their 2nd half wobble spells throughout last season, when he was a regular.
Especially in the PL run-in.
Modrics' play really needs a decent striker in front to reap the true worth of his service.
Still got 4th though(which was the aim) but unfortunately that proved to be the worst case scenario for you lot in the end...
"Still got 4th though(which was the aim)"
Not solely due to the efforts of Modric.
Pity he wasn't a guaranteed 10 PL goals per season like Fat Frank is.

he took the pee out of our wonderful THFC and the fans
======================
He did no such thing. He simply had the chance to further his career at one of the biggest clubs in the world. I dont blame any player for wanting to do that.
He didnt exactly wind his contract down & sign for our bitter rivals did he?

Sorry Chick I disagree.
Any player refusing to play with the squad in pre-season training is a totally dissing the club and the fans.

We are 4th now...our new aim is at least 3rd
"Any player refusing to play with the squad in pre-season training is a totally dissing the club and the fans."
This summer is irrelevant.
What he did the SUMMER BEFORE is what justifies the contempt directed at him.
"our new aim is at least 3rd"
Possibly loosened to 4th aren't in the CL final come May.
I always thought he was a bit overrated for us. Together with the lack of respect he's shown to Spurs I can't say I'm unhappy to see this news either.
On another note, yet more proof the PL isn't all it's cracked up to be?
Could be Spurtle, could just be some players are suited to certain leagues.
Bale for example would be wasted in Spain IMO - it's all about technique rather than beating your man, doesn't mean he isn't a world class winger though
"On another note, yet more proof the PL isn't all it's cracked up to be?"
No.
More like the step up from the top end of the PL to the likes of Barca and Madrid is another story altogether.
On another note, yet more proof the PL isn't all it's cracked up to be?
===========
Then you could say the failures of the likes of Pique, Forlan, Reyes, Veron, Rossi etc shows La Liga isn't all it cracked up to be...
As BLB says, players can fit in one team perfectly and not at all in another. And that could be in the same league, nevermind moving countries.
Modric and redknapp ending up the season with no trophies and relegation would be sweet!
Bale's yeah I get the impression it would be like that for Rooney too, but for Modric he seems more suited to La Liga with his possession play.
But yes like RDBD says it could just be a case of going to a club like Real Madrid. Then again he had a bit of a slow start for us and only really came into his own properly when Redknapp came, so he still might go on to be a good signing.
He did no such thing. He simply had the chance to further his career at one of the biggest clubs in the world. I dont blame any player for wanting to do that.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
You seem to have forgotten the year before with the chelsea fiasco dont you ?
Both manchester clubs thrashed us in our opening two games and Modric's "head was not right".
Or are you telling me that chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world ?
Or are you telling me that chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world ?
=====================
Of course not, but i dont see what you feel a bloke from Zadar, a city on the Adriatic coast, owes a football club from North London.
Players move on, Bale will move on, but if his move didnt work out i'd take him back in a flash too.
I agree his head should have been "right" but they do say there is only one thing that's impossible to resist, and that is temptation. And whether we like it or not, Chelsea would have been a tempting move for any footballer plying their trade at a 5th placed club that we were that year.
Players move on
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thats right but they dont necessarily disrupt when they move on, do they ?
Sheringham never did he ?
Modric signed a long term contract and within months wanted to move. Well dont sign the fecking contract in the first place then if in a matter of months you want to disrupt our club because you are a selfish little muppet.
Nobody put a gun to his head to sign it did they ?
No they never so once signed honour what you agreed and dont disrupt THFC, thats why I would not want him back.
I have not said it about Kaboul or Defoe have I ? No I have not because they never had a major hand in disrupting us, HE DID.
proof of how weak the prem has become
No they never so once signed honour what you agreed and dont disrupt THFC, thats why I would not want him back.

How many contracts are honoured these days?
The contract extension offered I assume was initiated by other clubs sniffing around Modric. It worked for both parties at the time & with hindsight we should be glad he signed it, because had he not he would still have left the club for a fraction of the 30 odd million we got in the end.
Totally agree with Chicken on this

This contract issue can work both ways though. Do you believe, for example, that where we offer a contract to players who are deemed no longer good enough, that we should continue to keep our side of the contract, pay them & keep them a spot in our squad for the full duration - or do you think its right to sell? The contracts are there to protect both parties. The player gets their guaranteed wages for X years, and the club get a decent sell on value of £X the longer the contract.
I think we'd be even more up in arms if he wound down his original contract & joined Chelsea on a free, wouldnt we?
I totally get the bit about distrupting the club, that is totally wrong, but none of us really know what was going on there. Did Levy put pressure on him to stay, ie. if he doesnt publicly announce he is staying then he wont make the team, or did Modric say his head wasnt right and so opted out? i dont know.
Apart from that part of the season though, he was a good servant to our club & a consistent performer.

Yes I believe any contract should be honoured by both club and player. Not saying they will make the team if they are no longer good enough but if they have 2 years of a contract to run then its up to THFC to pay wages for two years.
From a players point of view if he has two years on his contract then its up to him to be available for every game (injuries permitting of course) and to give his best during that two years.
How many contracts are honoured these days?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whats that got to do with it ? The only reason they are not honoured is because clubs bow to player pressure which IMO is a disgrace.

I don't beleive for a moment that Modric and his camp put any pressure on Spurs to offer him the contract extension which he signed.
Levy flew out to Dubrovnik to do the deal which as i said before was in the interest of both parties.
The way i look at this is that the player helped us in 4 years reach a new plateau by performing extremely well. He then moved for a 100% profit which contributes to the club being able to afford things such as the new training ground, to replace departing players etc etc.
The bitterness is unnecessary when you look at the bigger picture

Nothing wrong with the Madrid stuff.
The Chelsky antics the season before, sealed it for me.
