With a fan base like Liverpools, why have they not taken advantage and increased the size of Anfield or built a new ground??

thats one thing the United board have done well down the years, always investing in infrastructure even when other clubs were outspending them in the transfer market, its all about long term sustainability and growth.

Old trafford is in an industrial wasteland

there are no planning constraints

you could expand to 200,000 without issues

Anfield is surrounded by houses - we can't really do a lot

Old Trafford has a whole row of terrace houses just over the railway line. Every time one goes up for sale, United buy it and knock it down. Just count all the gaps next time you are there, this is to expand the ground even further in the future. They also spent ten million on buying the entire industrial estate in which the stadium lies. Admitedly it is not as crammed in as most other old stadia but you cant deny that the board are forward thinking.

by the way, its not true that there are no planning constraints, i went to a few TBC planning meetings to oppose a residents only parking scheme which they planned near the ground where l lived. The club had to jump through a lot of hoops to get planning permission.

we've done the same around Anfield

If you've been you'll see all the empties with metal grates on the windows.

There is just too much residental and it could take forever to get them all

The current plan is expand Anfield to 60 - I think they'll start in the next couple of years. But there isn't a lot else we can do on the site

To be fair, that describes half of the city of Liverpool.

So you came down the east lancs off the motorway, and seen boarded up houses all along the way to the city centre ?
What a load of old tosh.

Google street map must be at least 2 to 3 years old, so it should be hard for you to show us these rows of boarded up properties.

i didnt come down the east lancs I came from the M62, and I swear all the houses were boarded up with the boards all painted and reference to some regeneration project. It was the year of the Capital of Culture and I remember thinking ; you are having a laugh

Let's be honest though

both Liverpool and Manchester have their fair share of areas that you wouldn't describe as posh
