It's a shift in the business. Nobody cares who makes the music anymore. It's all about the face on the end product
It has been a farce for ages.
Welcome to reality.

It has pretty much always been this way. Especially in the UK.
Even back in the days of Top of the Pops, you very rearely saw the decent bands, only the plastic ones.
The only decent time you could here real music was with Tommy Vance and John Peel on Friday nights.

I'd say it's even worse in the states, old chap.

I don't even look at the charts these days, the only people who buy CD's anymore are kids. Personally I have deezer free with my phone contract and can plug that into my car stereo so that does me fine.
I have 500 good songs on my iPod! All other music sucks arrrse!
The jihadists of Birmingham should attend that travesty of a music awards an take out Robbie "feel sorry for me" Williams loius i like young boys Walsh and Simon crimes against music Cowel!
How can 'bands' that don't write their own material or play instruments be taken seriously???
======
So true. The music industry has been a joke for more than a decade
I'm not a One Direction fan, it isn't my sort if music but I do find it strange that people will claim the only good artists are the ones they like.
I don't like radio head etc either so whether its One Direction or Oasis, it still wouldn't appeal to me.
Music is one if those things, like football a lot of the time, where people will try and pass opinion for fact.
It's really ignorant. The fact is, groups like One Direction appeal to a mass market and like it or not, they are very good at what they do - sell records.
Using whether or not someone has written a song as a beating stick is pointless as well. A lot of great actors, Directors etc dont write their own script, doesn't take away from the film....song writing is a talent but it isn't mutually exclusive with being able to sing.
There will be some fabulous song writers who simply can't sing and equally, some incredible singers who can't write.
Just because you like a band(s) that aren't 'mainstream' doesn't mean they don't deserve to be where they are. Talent and ability is pure opinion. I can think of nothing worse than sitting for an hour through Korn but other people will claim, as fact, that they are the best at what they do and like this article, claim they deserve more recognition than the likes of Justin Bieber etc. I would rather sit through Bieber than that.
Justin Bieber will prevent the decline of music. We all are Beliebers
RedRach, calm down 'dear'.
Boy bands are pathetic plastic travesties of music, 5 pimply faced muppets all dancing in unison miming regurgitated lyrics oooooooh girl it's real ooooooooooh
The spice girls should have been drowned in a bucket of their own pizz for their music!
justin beiber is the mole on the wrinkly arsse that is the music industry these days
I'd say it's even worse in the states, old chap.
