Off topic rant- The Brit Awards

I never used to but I hate rap and hip hop now, just find the whole scene too aggressive and it's a bad influence on youth.

I remember thinking I was 'bad' because I was listening to 50 Cent or Ja Rule talking about shooting people in the ghetto, and whilst there are obviously other factors to include it does have an influence.

Fleetwood Mac are cool as feck, better prior to Annie Lennox joining the group imo.

The Chain is the best song to put on a pub jukebox, people's reaction is amazing.

I do agree that Radio 1 does indeed have a pernicious influence on the music in this country - as much as the much loathed Simon Cowell.

.............

Can't stand that guy. He has done more damage to the music industry than Stock, Aitken and Waterman ever did, and they did a hell of a lot of damage.

A complete contrast to Richard Branson.

I don't watch any of the reality shows in the US, they are more about the comments from the judges, than the actual music.

That said, at least you know the winners of these shows can actually sing, which can not be said for most of today's pop megga stars. I couldn't even tell you how one Britaney Spears song goes, let alone that Bieber chap.

"Fú*k Off" by Wayne County and The Electric Chairs has the same effect.

Of course they do. Much like a lot of bands write songs with strong suicidal or drug references. Doesn't mean it is right but it is what appeals to that particular niche.

Akala is a perfect example of how rap can be done without referencing to being a 'gangster'. It will also be why you can get tickets to his gigs for a tenner.

Absolute 90's. Beats any other station out there!

There's something odd about middle class white kids going on about popping an ass in someone's cap or whatever the expression is.

Absolute is the best radio station the country, 90s is good but i've been listining to Absolute 60s recently and it is fantastic, The Beatles,The Stones, The Who, The Animals and motown all day, brilliant!

The normal Absolute used to do my head in, doesn't seem like there's much point in having a no repeat guarantee if you play the exact same songs every day. At my old job we used to play Absolute bingo.

I actually have no choice but to enjoy Atomic Kitten

My Mrs was down at the record of the year show a good few years ago and unbeknown to me, she was having a chat with atomic kitten (a friend of her's brother helps manage them) which is how they got the front row tickets in the first place

Well, I was at home in my l;ounge and the phone went. I answered it and the voice on the other end said, Hi Pete, It's Jenny Frost here

I did get my own back a couple of years later though. I bumped into Mark Lamar in Puerto Banun and got him to ring the Mrs at home.

He said to her 'You sound common'

As far as music goes, I'm in the 'I like what I like' category. I don't have much interest in who's the most talented.

I like anything from Oasis to the sound track from Les Mis.

My Ipod has 8 thousand songs on it

Yeah i agree, i thought the no repeat workday was a great idea (which it is to be fair) but as you say it is the same songs every day, at the moment they're playing Black Chandelier by Biffy Clyro constantly. It helps if you break it up with a bit of 6 Music or Q Radio.

Christian O'Connell's breakfast show is just terrible, the "banter" is on a par with 13 year old children. That said there are some great segments on the station as well as the on-line content

Boris, didn't Wayne become Jane, or did I imagine that one? Do remember the song though... 'if you don't want to **** me baby, baby **** off'

That's the one Joey.

I used to prefer O'Connell to Chris Moyles. The bloke that done the terrible impressions like Obama and the pope used to crack me up. No longer have a car so rarely have to listen to the radio.

Cheers Joey.

Rach, I know what you're saying and I am happy to just avoid listening to the charts or watching the dross on TV, every now and then it winds me up though, seeing 1D or whoever everywhere I look.

It's not the existence of these acts, it's the media force-feeding them to us that bugs me (including almost everywhere online as well). But most of the time I can ignore/laugh at them luckily.

In answer to the original post, the Brits is a bit steaming pile of shallow, meaningless garage IMO

so he says Rap/ Hip Hop shouldn't be classed as music, then what should it be classed as...
oh i've been here too many times, and they never win...
if you don't like Rap/Hip Hop..
then don't listen, turn it off, change channel.
Bieber and the Saturdays don't harm me, cos i just tune out, and switch.
it's a really easy thing to do...

Award ceremonies, in general, are a farce. They don't reward quality or creativity. They reward marketing and a-r-s-e licking.

Shaun Keaveny on 6 Music is the best morning presenter by a mile.
