Vc,

I always have it just behind The Searchers personally.

Although the scene where Fonda kills the young boy has to be the most chilling of all westerns, the music, the eyes, the gun. Bang.

TGM

The opening scence at the train station does it for me. The fly landing on Jack Elam's face, the squeaking of the station sign, and then the harmonica.

Vc,

Yes, its a scene only Leone could conjure up really. The emphasis placed on the fly and the dripping water, all adding to the suspense.

Still though casting Henry Fonda as Frank was a masterstroke, no-one else would've had the ability to consider it. He made the film for me.
