Think the first film I watched in surround sound was No Country for Old Men... Didn't know what had hit me.

TKT,

I recorded Assault on Precint 13 a few weeks ago off film4 without checking. When I sat down to watch it, it was the damn awful remake. Wasn't impressed.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly are the three best films ever made.

I don't know why I don't like heat Jalisco but it's just not that good IMO I don't really like any of manns films though think he's got a drab directing style and he drags his scenes out too much.

Don't feel bad about Chinatown it's a movie you really need to pay attention to to keep up with the story, there's not so many films like that made today and they usually stand out things like the usual suspects and memento, allot of people won't admit it but they are still confused by the ending of the usual suspects

I did only see Chinatown once, quite a long time ago. I should give it another go.

I suppose Michael Mann is an acquired taste. I also love The Insider, directed by him.

It's a complex plot. It probably needs to be watched twice IMO. In a nutshell its about a private investigator who uncovers murder and corruption in the LA water dept, he becomes embroiled in the scams and deceit and works out the link.

the original is better

the remake is watchable if you go in with low expectations. but I guess that applies to a lot of things

I hate really hyped and talked about new films - even if they're good the bar was already set to disappoint

There will be Blood
Fargo
Rosemarys Baby
Alternatively anything Scorcese - King of Comedy being the most underrated work and in light of todays ' celeb obsessed ' world a dark farsighted prophecy for our times.

Glad to see Argo winning an Oscar great movie, watched life of pi last night, very pretty and visually impressive but I was losing interest towards the end of it.

Going to watch Hitchcock tonight hope Hopkins is his usual brilliant self.

What I did like about Heat is the setting and the screen-play.

LA feels like a huge urban ghost-town. Some of the shots are impressive.

Good shout Charlie the king of comedy is very underrated and a bit unknown considering scorcese directs and di Niro stars.

Agree kaiser about hyped up new films, watched django unchained recently, it's good but it's not great IMO, Tarantino is way too self indulgent in his movies and he wrecks an already ott ending in django with his terrible cameo, he's a truly awful actor. He does know where to putthe camera though some great shots in it.

Also he wants to make a spagetti western which is fine an he does to a point but I never heard a rap song in a spagetti western before.
