If we knew Balogun wouldn’t sign, I think we’d have sold him to Brentford last January.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably thought they could get more, or perhaps felt they could change his mind.

In relation to this player though, should we really be looking at signing a Brandt or Aouar type, when we have ESR now starting to prove his worth, and Cirjan apparently not that far behind him?

ESR has had one game, I don't think you start tearing up plans on the back of that. Plus they could play in the same XI in numerous combinations, so again we really need to add to the squad.

Pretty sure the manager is there to manage the team rather than pander to one youth team player

Think we’re getting a bit Arteta focused here tbh. Where is Edu in all this. Shouldn’t he be taking a lot of the flak here too?

And how about KSE. How long has it been now, and still no replacement for Fahmy?

So persuading a future prospect that he should stay is not in Arteta's remit and is somehow contradictory? What do you think a manager is for exactly? Obviously not coaching since being 'promoted'.

I do think Arteta was wrong to leave it so late to bring Balogun on against City, and he really should’ve started him at least against Dundalk - it’s not hard to see what he brings to the team.

But if he or the club really thought ‘that’s it, the kid is definitely leaving’ why even have him in the squad at all?

Not like we’re going to be able to command a fee for him anyway next summer. And if the plan is to sell him next month, then all the more reason to give him more playing time now, to drive up his price.

I really think (hope) this still has the possibility to go our way, and for him to sign a new contract.

It doesn't matter what technical director says when trying to persuade a young kid he has a future at the club. Wenger got the blame for letting Gnabry go. You can bet Klopp has been on the phone to Balogun.

Wenger got the blame for Gnabry going by people who don't have a clue

Wenger said himself he should have done more for Gnabry. ffs when will all this stupid attempts at point scoring end.

posted on 27/12/20

Erm... but Wenger filled the role of technical director when he was at the club, J99.

If DJ is right and this is all about career progression, I doubt moving to Liverpool would be of interest to Balogun atm.

No, Wenger said Bayern manipulated the situation, and Wenger did everything he could to keep Gnabry to the extent he felt a contract was agreed.
He even used the phrase that "Bayern stole Gnabry".

Indeed he did both jobs. And so it was totally up to him where Gnabry ended up on loan. Or how much persuading needed to be done to keep him after his bad experince with Pulis.

Now if there was a difference of opinion whether Balogun is worth keeping between Edu and Arteta, you would have a point. But since they reopened negotiation suggests that there is some agreement that they want to keep him. Or why bother? They could have sold him to Brentford. Dut sdince they did keep it should be up to the manager to persuade Balogun he has a future at Arsenal. Now if Arteta is not that bothered then shouldn't he be held accountable if Balogun develops? Even Arsene regrets he could have done more for Gnabry to succeed at Arsenal and Arsene has always been considered top notch at developing players.

Think they're trying to hit that sweet spot of giving him enough minutes to convince him to stay, yet not enough to make ourselves look foolish when he leaves.

Balogun has made his decision. Doubt Arteta and co can sway him from it

Only hope is the promise of more football when Laca leaves. But I'm guessing Balo is now tempted by regular football and career progression in Germany
