This is from Fabrizio, probably the most reliable journalist when it comes to transfer:
“Granit Xhaka is expected to sign his new contract with Arsenal until June 2025 - final details still to be agreed, Granit open to discuss as he’s not joining AS Roma this summer. ⚪️🔴 #AFC”

Is it time to panic or not yet? 🤔🤔

If he was also tweeting about us now looking to move Elneny on instead, I’d be okay with it - more okay with it, at least.

That said, if the idea is him having a good season and us then looking to sell him next summer after football finances have recovered a bit… that’s two big gambles we’re taking.

Forgot about this...

“I think a project has its phases and I am telling you we are in a much better position today to be where we want to be very soon, if we do what we have to do. But we have to be ruthless. There is no time to waste and there is a lot to do.”

Mikel Arteta, May 2021

In fairness to me, seems I’m not the only one to have done so...

Ruthless definition:

To stay exactly the same as you were before. To not upset the apple cart. To spend as long as you want pondering. To name a midfield of Xhaka + Elneny versus Brentford.

Oh. Seems maybe I was wrong after all 😑

He was ruthless with Saliba at least 🤷‍♂️

This only comes as a surprise if you believed that Arteta wanted to sell Xhaka in the first place. It was obvious from the very start that Xhaka was the one who wanted to go. Probably didn't like the idea of fans turning on him if it went bad.

Well at least lokonga looks decent.

Interesting dynamic atm:

Chelsea <------- Lukaku
Arsenal <------- Tammy
Inter <------- Lacazette
Arsenal <------- Lautaro

He does.

And in fairness to Arteta, like most of us here, he might've assumed we'd have had more, and higher offers for the players we want to sell. They just haven't come in (yet).

The concern now must be wondering whether the rumoured transfer kitty was contingent on raising funds through selling the likes of Nkeitah, AMN, Xhaka, Torreira, Guendouzi etc.

If it was, and we make no big sales, then spending £50m on Ben White could well end up looking kind of crazy.

Nah. These are nominal fees compared to the amounts Arsenal are purported to be spending.

And Arteta wouldn't be offering Xhaka a new contract if he wasn't in his plans. If Xhaka is in his plans why would he be selling him?

Sam Dean

Early indications are that Thomas Partey could miss the first few weeks of the season. That would take him out of Brentford (A), Chelsea (H) and City (A) before the international break. Early days in the recovery process so that’s not definitive, but would be a significant blow

Let's at least learn from this and play our U23 vs Spurs. No point of risking another player in another preseason game.
