Cos Xhaka is rubbish and we still need more strength in CM as a result
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah. But tell Arteta that.

I will if I see him!
We should get Aouar on loan with option to buy next year, so when Xhaka wants to leave after a season of being booed we've already got that in place

Given that Arteta isn't guaranteed to be in the job for much longer, it is very risky to give a player like Xhaka an extension when the man who inevitably replaces Arteta may not want anything to do with Xhaka and we could be lumbered with him as a result.
Arteta loves Xhaka. He ain't signing anyone to replace him. Did you listen to Arteta's comments about Xhaka before the game when the interviewer asked him why Xhaka was captain again?

Hopefully Edu does his job then and signs a good player that can serve the club after Arteta has to be sacked in a few months
Terrified that his only backside licker almost moved to Roma.
Did Atletico Madrid take up that option to buy Dembele?

he is terrified of his influence in the dressing room. thats why he knows as long as he keeps Xhaka sweet the rest wont riot against him
----------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah I wonder if that dynamic has changed after he almost went to Roma. Something must have pished him off.
No longer convinced Xhaka is a dressing room leader, simply because players tend to gravitate towards those who are actually talentes

You need technical leaders on the pitch and as good as Xhaka might be in the dressing room, I can't imagine people look to him as a leader when he's a weak link on the pitch
I guess maybe cos he takes a lot of the abuse that would have to be spread across the others
Oh I dunno. All those who shout and clap a lot get some thick ones to follow them. But those who do about turns from transfers. Not so much.
I mean if our players are that thick then that's another issue
I just wonder why Arteta gave him back the captaincy after he almost left. There has to be something in that.
Did Arteta promise him that if he stayed? How would that have gone down in the dressing room and Auba.
Giving it back to Xhaka, after we fail to sell him, so we can ostracize Auba to force him, only to fail to find a buyer, will be classic Arteta/Edu/Arsenal
Could be. Will be interesting to see if Auba gets the armband back when he is fit again.
Even after the Bretford debacle?
I feel like Auba wants the glory of being a captain without all the responsibility. Probably wouldn't actually be that bothered about taking it back but would probably be a bit embarrassed at least
tbf to Auba he could be injured/covid etc.
