Arsenal are getting a very good, young & versatile defender in Tomiyasu who switches between centerback and right back easily. Has over 60 games of Serie A experience at 22 y/o. Gets forward well but really stands out with 1 on 1 defending.

Actually think if we'd replaced Xhaka with a top quality CM we'd be talking about a great window

As it is we've got good players for the future, but not really improved our first team and we'll be talking about an age old issue all season again

I don't know, I personally think it's the oldest and most pressing problem we've had and the fact that we're 3 games in and Xhaka has already made a blunder and got himself suspended, while going off for Swiss duty all smiles, is just depressing.

The squad as a whole seems stronger and has a lot of potential. I tihnk Arteta will obviously mismanage it but once he's gone I've seen a lot from most of our younger players to suggest the future could be bright.

GK - Leno, Ramsdale
RB - AMN, Tomiyasu
LB - Tierney, Navares
CB - White, Saliba, Gabriel, Holding
CM - Partey, Bissouma, Xhaka, Lokonga
AM - ESR, Odegard
LW - Auba, Martinelli
RW - Saka, Pepe
CF - Laca, Eddie, Balogun

If that was our squad we'd have only signed one more player and shifted a bit more deadwood. It'd still need improving but it would need less work every summer as our younger players improve. I'd feel optimistic.

We desperately needed a ball progressor in midfield. Whether through dribbling, passing or both. One that doesn't have stupid brain farts.

But we handed xhaka a contract instead. Brainless.

Ødegaard at CM vs Norwich might work, tbh. His passing, dribbling and even tackling ticks the boxes. Starting him against City was a mistake, but vs Norwich it might work out. Though it is a bit of a fudge option.
