Arteta rates him and when he signed a new contract he had on year left of his contract. So let him go for free a year later when you rate a player wouldnt make sense.

We didnt sell him because Roma wanted to mug us over. If Roma would have offered an adaquat amount of money I am sure Arteta would have let him go despite rating him. That is my opinion of the situation and what I made of things I read. I can only guess.
