I don't think anyone believes that Ben White is a long term right back. Or we'll need to sell Tomi. Can't see him hanging around as a fill in.

Why not? White has been very good at right back and even when fit Tomi hasn't got back in the team.

We lack pace and a natural overlap on the right with Ben. Its worked this season because teams have been reluctant to mark Saka out of the game. But with his reputation growing I don't see that continuing. That will leave space a natural RB can exploit. Thats not Ben imo.

Yeah. I see could see Holding wanting to be starter somewhere. Though I still think Saliba/Ben White will be the combo long term. Gabriel reminds me of a Sol Campbell type defender. If Arteta is planning to go full pep, both CBs really need to be able to pass the ball out from the back.

Not sure when Holding signed his contract extension but presumably it was before Saliba came into the side.

Yeah, he might still get the Europa group and Caribao games, but he’s barely used in the league now, and if we finish top 4 this season I doubt he’ll see any CL action next season.

Whether we’ll get anything for him is another matter.

I am not sure why people connect contract extensions to whether we will sell someone or not. Both things are not linked. Players are assets while they have a market value and so should always be contracted. No team keeps an unhappy player so they can demand to leave at any time and likewise a club can sell any player he becomes surplus to requirements.

His market value is fack all, but his wages are greater than most teams would be willing to give him on top of the transfer fee and all the rest.
Holding signing a contract extension is most definitely a barrier to him leaving.
