What rewriting of history are you referring to?
Some people desperately trying to give Emery any credit for where Arsenal are now under Arteta.
Arteta will never get any credit from certain "fans". Some still have anti-Arteta usernames and they are all waiting eagerly for the next negative result.

There is no credibility to that if they actually believe it. They would have had a point if Arteta had achieved immediate success. But we've suffered through two years of pain. So obviously Arteta has had to build the success we are now enjoying.

Aye, the type of person who'd rather be proved right rather than just admit they were wrong.
But you can't dismiss the fact that Emery did recognise that we had really good youth players. Especially when the directors at the time were more focussed in on bringing in younger players from abroad.
I watched the Amazon build up when I got home after the game and Henry made a really good point to Arteta. He said why has it taken 2 years for us to see Man City's system at Arsenal and Arteta replied he didn't have the players so had to adapt the system to who was at Arsenal at the time.
I think Arteta was a bit disingenuous in that answer because he did sign the likes of Cedric, Willian, Mari and gave new contracts to Auba, Luiz, Elneny and Xhaka (while at the same time threatening to bench him if he didn't adapt to his new role). Now tbh I don't blame Arteta now for doing that (though I did at the time) because a young coach needed some experince at the club.
However it really came to a now or never situation before Arteta just went for it last season and I am thankful he did or I doubt Arteta could have survived a third season out of the Champions League.
Stan & Josh we are lucky to have KSE
Arteta didn't have the players to play a high line for one thing.
So why did he wait till last season to buy 2 faster CBs? In fact why didn't bring back Saliba last season?
Arteta admitted to Henry he changed his system to suit the players at Arsenal. Generally top managers try to implement their system and sell players when they fail. How much lower than 8th would have we finished if the players had failed?
Well it was a lesson for Arteta. I doubt he will try to implement Moyes counter attack rubbish anywhere ever again!
So why did he wait till last season to buy 2 faster CBs? In fact why didn't bring back Saliba last season?

He got Gabriel 2.5 seasons ago? Saliba wasn't ready, obviously. And we had to clear the wage bill of mustafi, sokratis, kolasinac, luiz etc before spending big in that department.
Arteta will adapt to the players he has. Don't know why this is so controversial. Better players = better performances. And thankfully, arteta can spot a good player.
Once Raul went it was always going to be a massive rebuild that took time. Edu even said ages ago we wouldn't be competitive until 22/23.
The plan to bring youth through goes pre-Emery as well. We cleared out all the foreign youth (the likes of Bennacer, Jeff, Donyell) pre-Emery to concentrate on the English lads in our academy. That definitely isn't an Emery project. The fact we were in the Europa helped, as it allowed us to continue to play kids, as Wenger did the season before.

You are missing the point.
Do you think Pep would have changed his ideals if Bayern or Man City players were initially unable to play his system/style? Or did he try them in that system and got rid if they had been unable to adapt?
Arteta gave Xhaka a chance didn't he? And Xhaka has shown that he is able to adapt to playing differently.
That is why Pep only manages clubs like Barca, Bayern and Man City. They have world class players and the money and pulling power to get others.
If Pep went to a club in the position Arsenal were and tried to play to his ideals he would have failed.
Even world class players can fail to adapt in a system and be extremely successful when they play for a different manager whose style suits them better.
Yeah, and they get replaced by other world class players in the squad, and others who are signed for big money.
The difference is, Bayern and Barca had far higher quality of players than arsenal had when arteta took over. Obviously.
Xhaka is just one convenient example. Everybody else has been kicked out. Guardiola kicked out legends like ronaldinho and deco. But he had the likes of Messi, Etoo and Henry.
These players got Wenger sacked for god's sake. Emery too. You expected arteta to play a guardiola-like system with the rubbish we had? Nonsense.
But isn't that what we have done? What Arteta is getting full credit for? Getting rid of a world class player like Auba and replacing him with someone like Jesus who suits the style Arteta wants to implement?
I am not sure you realise that Arteta acknowledged to Henry that he didn't do that initially and I think its understood that he finally did that last season. Arteta is a really intelligent guy and he is not embarrassed to admit he needed to learn. Thats what I think sets him apart from the likes of Poch etc. Gives me great hope tbh. Compared to his first two seasons when honestly I could have hung, drawn and quartered him for the tripe we were playing compared to the hope we had signing him as a Pep/Wenger protege.
Never said anything like that in any interview I can find, please link it.
Leno, mustafi, kolasinac, lacazette, luiz, bellerin, chambers, sokratis, torreira. Those are just off the top of my head. We still have the likes of Pepe still at the club.
You can't just, overnight, get shot of these high wage/low talent duds and replace straight away. How can you? We are not man city or Chelsea (and you can see how even Chelsea are struggling right now).
Plus the owners were clearly focusing on the ESL and need I remind you the world shut down for a year due to a global pandemic.
I think to go from where we were to where we are in the space of 2.5 years is mightily impressive. Especially given the competition in this league and external factors as mentioned above.
"I watched the Amazon build up when I got home after the game and Henry made a really good point to Arteta. He said why has it taken 2 years for us to see Man City's system at Arsenal and Arteta replied he didn't have the players so had to adapt the system to who was at Arsenal at the time."

Thats what you said earlier. Totally different to him acknowledging he "didn't do that initially", where your implication is he is admitting he made a mistake in not doing that initially. He had to work with what he had, while also planning and building for the future to get where he wanted to be. If he went in with those players and tried to play the way we are now then we would have probably been relegated.

Pre-Amazon build. They initially had Moyes/Arteta together and Henry asking him questions. Maybe Amazon still have it?
Also it should be noted Arteta won an fa cup with the players he had.

Of course it is. Arteta is a very humble guy and was technically speaking about the process!
Do you honestly think that if Arteta had to go to another club he would play counter attack or try to create a system the players available? Imagine hiring Dyche and thinking you would getting anything more than long ball.
This is how management develops. Good managers create a signature and style that is then associated to them. And it almost always sticks.
Okay, just watched it.
Thierry "In your 3 years for a long time you were looking for your formation, a system. What allowed you, this year, to play the system I know you prefer the most".
Arteta "Players. This game is about the players and you have to fit the game around the players you have. You'd like to do other things, but you have to put players in positions they are comfortable in where they can perform at their highest level."
Nothing about needing to learn? One thing I think is clear is the club (from Josh, to Edu, to Arteta) knew it was a long term rebuild and, as Edu said 2 years ago, it wouldn't be until now we would be competitive. Arteta was always working towards this, but knew the players he had couldn't play the system he wanted so he adapted to avoid catastrophic end results.
