Mikel Arteta on Kiwior: “He gives us more cover. We’ve been with three central defenders for the first part of the season, which is very short & we’ve been lucky with injuries. We needed to recruit in that position & we’ve done it.” #afc

Mudryk would have come in as a raw (albeit an expensive) attacker and competed with Martinelli and (to a lesser extent) Saka & Nketiah. If he turned out to be the Elite attacker Arteta probably envisaged then Martinelli had no option but to up his game/ sit as a squad player, or leave the club. No problems. If Mudryk turned out like Pepe, then he would have been an expensive flop but Martinelli would have seen off the competition. Either way, all good.

Either either either way, Arsenal FC would be better for it, regardless of whatever Martinelli or any other player thought of it.

In the case of Odegaard, he was never a starter, barely even a squad player. Many young players have that and leave.
Very different to the Martinelli situation, where you suggested he would leave if we signed a left winger even though he currently "has the shirt". No fight, no competition, just straight out the door.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But its pretty much the same. In case of Odegaard he felt he had no path to being an established starter at Madrid. And he was not an unknown player when he was signed. He was young but he still felt that way. Didn't want to wait.

Martinelli is the established starter this season. I think he will know Trossard is no direct competition to him because of his age. Which is why I partly wanted us to sign experience (the other more likely to affect a title run). However £50m+ on a young wide player is quite different to that. What does it say to him? Agents advising their players are not stupid.

It is nothing close to the same
Odegaard had no future at Real, he had no present or past either
City literally told Jesus to go cos they didn't want him.

Arsenal adding a player, and competition, to the squad is very, very different.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How do you know? You say Odegaard had no future because of what? It was Odegaard choice to leave!

Jesus was played last season. Wide and in the middle. They signed Halland. It was Jesus request to leave. They did not tell him to get out. But he could see he would further behind others.

Why didn't they stay? Didn't they have fight for the competition?

TBH, I can see Trossard competing with Odegaard for next season, especially with PL, CL and the other cup competitions. In some ways I reckon we'd sign him regardless of our interest in Mudryk.

Odegaard had no future at Real because no one played him, they sent him out on loan and were open to sell him.

City bought 2 players in ahead of Jesus and told him he wouldn't play. Not surprising he wanted to leave.

Now, if Arteta never played Martinelli then comparisons to Odegaard would be fair.
If Martinelli was a bit part player and Arteta brought in 2 players in his position ahead of him then the comparisons would be fair.

But Martinelli has played almost every game across all competitions.

We need competition for all players. What is wrong with that? No one needs to leave especially not Martinelli.

The thing is Spurs were after him for months and rumours are that Trossard wanted out for Spurs and so was difficult and created the tensions in the squad to manoeuvre a way out.

We only went for him after Mudryk deal collapsed. I think the natural replacement/s for Ode are ESR and Vieira.

Yeah. I think its worse. Its more similar to Jesus where he started a lot and then City went out and bought Haaland.

We'll see what happens in the summer. imo if we don't go for a £50m+ wide player I think he has cemented his position. Otherwise I am not sure the idea of turning him into a striker is going to be enough for him to stay watching how Eddie is doing. So to be third choice.

We're building a squad capable of challenging for the league and CL next season, to do that we need quality backup in every position

What mistake did we make in the summer that has led to us only getting 50 points, winning our Europa group and progressing in the FA Cup?

Forest fans seem to like Danilo.

I'm hoping we've done a Bayern/Breman Gnabry style deal here where he's basically on loan at Forest to see if he's good enough to eventually play at the carpet
