There is no place to hide if a player is underperforming in the Premier League. Managers can see. I think £4m is a pity fee and Hodgson has said as much, saying the Palace DoF is buying him because he knows him personally and likes his character. I think they want him to help Palace's young defenders develop and be a good dressing room influence. Not really to start!

I don't think he was poor, he just doesn't have the skill set to play high up the pitch or progress the ball quickly - most teams in the league won't require that.
