Toney is a non starter, not good against a defence that sits deep(every defence we face) and hasn't got the kind of attitude Arteta wants

Remember, player's value on the book reduces each season depending on how the club has amortised the fee. So even if you sell a player for the exact same fee a year later you make a profit equivalent of the write down.

Yeah. So lets say they bought him for £52m and of that had to pay £20m up front and the rest over the following 2 years. The up front money would be a loss for that year and written down for that season. They would owe £32m as accrued expense. Now if they sell him for £52m this season, £32m would balance what they owe and £20m would be profit!
