Wenger to sign a contract extension?
=======================================

Hope not. Needs to have a better season now.

As I suggested yesterday. It helps if the manager can speak fluent German.

I'm with J99, in that Wenger will go big for a striker in Jan. We'll finish in the top 4, and Wenger will extend his contract.

At least we now know we have serious cash. £42.5m. That is fecking massive!

I don't agree with that. Arsene Wenger hasn't had the money in previous years. After what he has done for us he should have a 3 year extension.

Its only now that we will see the true Wenger building a squad that can challenge the world. It would have been different if Arsene was unable to attract world class players. Ozil signing shows that he still can and is willing to do so to win trophies.

It doesn't matter if we win trophies immediately now. Because it shows that intent is now there and Wenger should rightly lead that!

Be serious

Nothing warrants Wenger signing a contract extension.

And you think Ozil would have come for Moyes.

I couldn't really care less about trophies this season. If we scraped the league cup but still only got 4th, it doesn't really show any progress to me.

The fact is, there was more than £42m to spend, and Wenger should of spent it on a backup or world class striker.

He has no excuse now.

Just because Wenger signed ONE World Class Player does not mean he deserves a contract extension

Exactly Al.

Don't get me wrong, I'm massively excited about Ozil. I think he is an incredible player, and still young .

But we should of invested more. Not saying we HAVE to win something, but we have to be competitive.

We've got a better squad than United, so finishing 10 points + behind them is not acceptable.

And what choice do you have if none you think capable are available? Look at Chelsea spending £15m for a season on a has-been like Etoo.

In my opinion Man Utd are heading for disaster. What would you want? Rooney in Jan or no one because you spent £15m on a gamble now?

posted on 3/9/13

I would rather we spent 30m on Rooney this window, Stopped dithering over Higuain when we had the chance, Offered 50m for Suarez or paid out Jackson Martinez's release clause

posted on 3/9/13

Jenius, you live in a dreamworld mate. We aren't signing Rooney in January. Not a chance.

There's been plenty of movement on strikers this summer, and we should of had a piece of it. Walcott and Pod are not really acceptable backup options.

Have to agree on this. Wenger has had to scrimp and save, and now he's got cash to spend. Sure thing, he dithered and hesitated. To be fair, when you've spent your entire career on a budget, to have £100m to spend must be daunting. It also is a worry if you make a wrong purchase. Buy a flop and waste your money. Arsenal cannot afford an expensive flop, like City or Chelsea.

Wenger has many flaws and maybe the time is right for him to leave. But he is building a strong squad. Ozil is a massive statement. Yes a striker would have been great, but we were advised wrongly on the Suarez matter.

I don't know guys. I'm started to be swayed by the argument of giving Wenger another 2 years. That'll take him to retirement. He deserves that much for what he's had to endure for the sake of our financial position.

So Wenger spent £42m and for that he deserves a new deal?

Don't get me wrong, I think we will surprise many season. I actually have a little feeling we might win the league.

But we simply cannot give Wenger a new contract yet. Let him prove that this team can be competitive.

posted on 3/9/13

Unless he's saving the money for the new manager next season and this is why Ozil joined us to be apart of the new project?

posted on 3/9/13

Let me rephrase. If Wenger was given a contract extension, if he signs a Top class Striker in Jan, i won't be displeased at the thought of giving him an extension.

posted on 3/9/13

Doubt we'll sign a top class striker in Jan.

Who on earth would be available?

posted on 3/9/13

To be honest with you:

Giroud

Cazorla Ozil Walcott

Wilshere Ramsey

Is still not that strong. The centre of the midfield is lacking a bruiser player.

posted on 3/9/13

Man Utd were NOT going to sell Rooney this window. Rooney was not agitating for the move. He decided to give it a go. But the way Man Utd played against Liverpool I suspect things will be very different in Jan.

Real Madrid offered €55m for Suarez and Liverpool said no.

I would have also paid Jackson Martinez release. However even the extravagant Napoli don't think he is worth €25m. Let alone €40m release clause. So you can't blame Wenger for that.

We did waste too much time on Suarez. But that mistake is down the numpty D.Law for not reading Suarez's contract properly and so blowing any goodwill we had with Liverpool.

"bruiser player"

Have people still not learnt?

We don't sign bruisers anymore, if we ever did

Eh? Since when?

posted on 3/9/13

How do we not need one? We are always exposed in the middle.

And don't facking say Ramsey can do that job

posted on 3/9/13

Anyway, this idea of "we need a striker badly" is a bit OTT.

Chelsea have Torres, Ba and Eto'o. Not exactly ripping with world class.

Bayern have Mandzukic and Pizzaro. Fecking awful.

Madrid have Benzema and some kids. Not good enough.

United have the best striker in RVP, but Welbeck and Hernandez. Come on!

Arsenal with Giroud, Theo, Poldi is not that awful.
