A turning point or a false dawn ?

I'm still not convinced that Saunders is the right man BUT over the past few weeks we have played teams who are either at the top end of the table or in a rich vein of form.
We have only lost by the odd goal or drawn in all of those games so he is obviously going in the right direction.
If we survive this season i think we will see the biggest clearout in the history of this club. Even if it means cancelling contracts we need to shed 50% of what we've got.
I think we'll get beat saturday but last nights win has put us amongst a group of 10 teams that will all be on panic stations until the end of the season.
In an ideal world we'd be mid table and DS would be " having trials" for next season.

But we're not so it's a case of who's got the biggest balls.

Millwall were every bit as bad as Bristol City were when we smashed them away, and have been sliding down the table for some weeks. I still expected them to beat us easily, though.

Or (in the style of a Floridian)

We only won because they were worse than us.

Anybody having impure thoughts of survival will be in for a rude awakening on Saturday.

Will be or could be Herb ?
Hopefully confidence will start to grow and see us alright.

We've not lost a wicket yet

Oh gawd - I'd forgotten that one!

Yesterday's result had been coming for a while. I'm hoping Saunder's will continue improving the spirit and performances, and that the results will follow.

There has definitely been an improvement from the final throes of Solbakken's reign.

12-1 from 5 overs under a satanic sky. Two further days of sporadic rain forecast, so a draw looks likely. There should be a match thread up somewhere and I'm on a nightshift, which means 1,000 comments shouldn't be beyond me.

Seems odd to me that Solbakken is still regarded by some as a master technician despite sticking stubbornly to a formation that clearly wasn't working. Yet Saunders who has tried a number of new players and different formations is accused of not knowing what his best team or formation is.

Personally I am happy for Saunders to keep trying a few things out. He certainly seems to have improved us defensively and we are better to watch than in the first half of the season. I doubt many of us would agree with his team selections or some of his after match comments, but if he keeps us up and then makes the same kind of rapid progress in his second season as he did at Wrexham and Doncaster, few will be complaining

Don't know what went on at Doncaster but Saunders never won two on the bounce when they were in the Championship.

Maybe I'm still in doom mode but I really do hope he can pull us out of the mire and move us on next year.

This Saturday's match vs Forest should be very interesting on several issues:

Team selection; will he keep a winning team? Hope so.

Forest are in pretty good form, although last night wasn't too impressive. A draw will be a good result, and one the manager and the team would probably take now. If we happen to lose but play well what will that do for confidence? If we lose badly are we back to a demoralised set-up?

If we happen to win I hope the team and the supporters don't assume we are safe.

Fingers crossed

I'll take a draw all day wulfrun.

Doncaster was the club where all the agent Willie McKay placed all his unemployed players while they were waiting for a permanent deal. An arrangement that didn't work at all and gave Saunders very little choice in what players he was working with. After they had gone down that arrangement was dumped and Saunders built a whole new team and took them to the top of League One

I'm not getting carried away by a win against an awful Millwall side on a bad run in the league who luckily for us have a very winnable FA Cup quarter-final weekend. Lets see where we are after playing a decent Forest side and a pressure home game against Bristol City.
I won't see us staying up as some great achievement on Saunders' part as we never looked in any serious danger of relegation before he showed up.
Hopefully we can do enough to stay up but I would put our odds at no better than evens and then we can move on in the summer, have the long overdue clear out of the squad and get a proper manager in.

Roger - Everyone I know thought that the performances against Peterborough, Ipswich and Palace over xmas and new year had relegation written all over them

I must admit I haven't seen any of the highlights from last night, however Millwall are on a dreadful run and I think we've got to remind ourselves that that was our first win in 12 games. In today's footballing terms where winning is everything, that is a long time and we all know our problems seem to be very deep-rooted ranging from changing room unrest and division to blundering senior management.

It is a very good result and boy was it long, long overdue for these players to pull their effing fingers out and earn their money but we are still anchored in this relegation mire and a team like Forest, I think will find us out come Saturday.

I don't think we should go expecting a spectacular unbeaten run to the end of the season, we are 21st for a reason.

As the win has come on the back of improving performances I think we can hope that a corner has been turned.
